The City of McKinney, Texas continues its excellent series of summer festivals this coming 4th of July holiday weekend. I have selected a few events that are sure to be fun, exciting, and a great time for those who attend.

Free Family Movie & Popcorn Night at Adriatica

On Friday July 1, 2011 at the Adriatica Bell Tower in McKinney, there will be a free movie and popcorn night. This is located near the corner of Virginia Parkway and Stonebridge Drive. As the name implies this is a family event and should be a great way to start your holiday weekend. The movie is set to start around 7:00 p.m., but showing up early to get a good spot is advised. Please plan to bring your own blankets or chairs to sit on. This is a casual dress event, and relaxing is encouraged.

Bloom & Boomin' -- Patriot Portraits

The Orison Art and Framing Gallery will be hosting an art show with the works of Photographer Colin Kimball and David Hobson, who is a portrait artist. The works of both of these artists honor our veterans. Mr. Hobson, who is also a veteran, will be presenting a patriot portrait at this event. This event is open to anyone who would like come, and there is no charge to attend. The gallery is extending a special invitation to all veterans, military personnel, and their families.

Freedom Celebration at the Adriatica Soccer Fields

The Stonebridge Commercial Association will hold their third annual Freedom Celebration on Sunday July 3, 2011. This is a family event and is open to anyone who would like to celebrate their freedom and being an American. Please bring your own lawn chairs and blankets to sit on. This event will feature a free concert, face painting, slides, bounce houses, and fireworks. This is a casual dress event.

Stonebridge Racers 4th of July Race

Stonebridge Racers is having the Fireworks 1k and 5k race the morning of the 4th of July. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. and the 1k race will begin at 8:00 a.m. All children 9 years old and younger will receive medals for running in either event. There is a $15 entry fee for the 1k race and a $25 fee for the 5k. The race will begin at the Adriatica Bell Tower, and travel through the trails of Stonebridge Ranch. Volunteers are always needed so even if you are not running, come out and volunteer. There will be food, music, awards for the overall winners, and prizes.

Red, White, and Boom -- McKinney Texas

This is McKinney's festival for the entire day on July 4, 2011. The festival starts with the Hometown Parade starting at 10:00 a.m. at the former Collin County Courthouse and throughout Historic Downtown McKinney. This is a free event that is open to the general public and will continue into the afternoon and throughout the entire city. At 7:00 p.m. the festivities will move to the Soccer Complex at Craig Ranch for music, activities, and Fireworks! This year, the live music event will feature the American Idol Motown Review that will feature past American Idol contestants. There will be plenty of activities for kids throughout the day. Please bring chairs and blankets to sit on and any other items like sunscreen that you may need.
