Mclaren P11: Luxury Car Preview

If you've never heard of the legendary McLaren F1, you're not a petrol head, and should really learn about the best cars ever made. McLaren F1 was made in England, and was powered by a BMW V12 engine that gave it well over 600 horsepower. The car was made to hit speeds that no one ever dreamed of at the time. It was also made out very light materials, and even gold in a certain spot, to keep the heat from the exhaust from damaging the body. Each one took three months to make, and each cost $1,000,000! Did I mention that it's one of the most beautiful cars ever put in production? You had to be a famous person with a lot of pocket change to buy that car. Maintenance isn't exactly easy on your pocket either.

That's what it took to build the fastest car in the world. But McLaren says they've got a new flagship model they're working on. Which means that McLaren F1 will be replaced. Don't know what that will do to the original F1, because while there are a lot of cars that will be replaced, I think the McLaren F1 should hold a place in history as the car that will never be replaced. And here it is, the P11. And right off the bat, I gotta say it's not the best looking car I've ever seen. The old F1 looked better.

The P11 will be powered by a Mercedes V8, producing about 550 horsepower, and will rival the Ferrari F430. Shame they had to stoop that low, but I understand where they're coming from. McLaren lost money on each of the 100 F1's they produced. They lost a lot of money, I should say. Because making the car actually cost more than they sold it for! The new P11, I think is a whole different animal. It's down on power, so we know it won't scare you out of your wits. And something that even I like, it won't cost as much. So, they're after profit now. Also, it's probably going to have a bunch of electronic interference, but here's an important question - will it even hit 200 mph?

So, it's not as good looking, it's a lot slower, a lot less powerful, and I think it just soiled the McLaren bloodline. Don't know whether it will be a supercar that you drive, or the supercar that drives for you, but I'm pretty sure there will be little computers doing their own thing to make the driver feel less involved, and to be honest, I'm worried about that. Now, I never drove the F1, so I don't know the terror, the sensation, the speed, the excitement, all I know is, once the P11 hits the streets, McLaren won't sound like such a special name, not as special as it used to be.

Overall Rating: 3/5
Exterior Rating: 3/5
Interior Rating: ---
Performance Rating: ---

My reason for not rating the performance and the interior, is I don't know how the P11 will perform. I'm sure the interior will be more elegant than the one the old F1 sported, but I think that performance won't be as impressive.

I've been into cars for a long time now. It started as a little kid when I started drawing cars for fun. My cars, though, did not have guns and fins on them, well, most of them didn't, to say the least. I fo...  View profile
