McNabb to Minnesota Vikings Rumors Seem like Conjecture from Donovan McNabb Fans
The Off Season Has Begun for Minnesota and Already There Are Rumors of a New Quarterback
The first reason that the McNabb to Vikings rumors are heating up is because people are unsure if Brett Favre will come back as the starting quarterback for Minnesota in the 2010 NFL season. Without Favre taking the snaps, it could force the Vikings to take a step back in expectations, and again rely upon the legs of Adrian Peterson to succeed in the playoffs. That's not the worst of possibilities, but they wouldn't be a better team than they were in the 2009 regular season.
The second reason that the McNabb to Minnesota Vikings rumors are heating up is because it has been thought that McNabb is no longer happy in Philadelphia. This has never been made public by McNabb and Eagles coach Andy Reid wants McNabb as his quarterback again in 2010, but the emergence of Michael Vick in his return to the NFL has people talking. Will the Eagles trade Vick and accept the team option to keep Vick in 2010? Some fans seem to think that will be the case.
The thing to keep in check are expectations that a trade like this would take place. There would have to be a lot of salary maneuvering to make a trade of Donovan McNabb to the Minnesota Vikings work, and the Eagles would need to be getting something substantial in return. A trade like this would cost the Vikings several draft picks at the minimum, and could take players from the main rosters as well to get it completed. The ultimate question would be if the Eagles felt that they were going to improve through a trade like this, or if they are a team looking to rebuild through the draft.
On paper, a McNabb to Vikings trade would allow McNabb to slide right into the Brett Favre role of the past season, and hopefully keep the young receivers in Minnesota developing. Favre made that team a better competitor this past season, and elevated the game of every wide receiver on the roster. To stay at that level, Minnesota either needs Brett Favre to commit to another season, or they need to go out and get another veteran quarterback to take the reins. Could a McNabb to Vikings scenario work out? Possibly. But that's saying that the Eagles even want to part with him in the first place.

Post a CommentMichael Vick will not be an Eagle next year even if McNabb is traded. Kevin Kolb will be the Eagles next starting QB if McNabb goes.
