Rolaids® customers are advised to return purchased products for refunds.
Which Rolaids® products are affected by the product recall?
The Rolaids® recall includes all product lots of Rolaids® Extra Strength Softchews, Rolaids® Extra Strength plus Gas Softchews and Rolaids® Multi-Sympton plus Anti-Gas Softchews. All of the affected Rolaids® products were distributed in the United States.
Specific Rolaids® Softchews product listings, including manufacturing lot numbers and expiration dates, are available online from McNeil Consumer Healthcare.
How were the foreign materials introduced into the recalled Rolaids® products?
Apparently, the wood and metal particles were likely mixed with the affected Rolaids® Softchews products during the manufacturing process, which occurred at a third-party subcontractor factory. A company investigation is underway, in cooperation with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), to determine the specific cause of the over-the-counter medication manufacturing mishap.
No new Rolaids® Softchews products will be made until corrective measures have been taken at the manufacturing plant involved in producing the recalled products.
Has anyone been harmed by using the recalled Rolaids®?
No life-threatening adverse health affects have been reported in connection with the affected Rolaids® Softchews, according to U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) reports. Consumers have, however, complained of abnormal taste, bum and tooth injuries and vomiting after ingesting the now-recalled products.
The health risk to consumers using the recalled Rolaids® products is minimal, according to McNeil Consumer Healthcare reports, but the recall stands.
What should Rolaids® customers do with recalled products?
Purchasers of the recalled Rolaids® items may contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare (online or by telephoning the company's Consumer Care Center toll-free: 1-888-222-6036 or TTY 800-722-1322) for instructions on returning the products for refunds.
