Up on the north end of the main strand of Lauderdale Beach you will find a little bar-lookin kinda place called McSorley's. If you are just sick to death of the conch fritters and mahi mahi everywhere else, stop on in here for a nice change of pace.

Inside is a dark yet friendly bar, but it's usually beautiful in Lauderdale so go ahead and grab a seat outside on the sidewalk so you can enjoy the view and the sound of the surf. The breeze right here is wonderful even on the hottest of days. If it does happen to start storming as it does on occasion in the fall hurricane season, go ahead and step inside to the very welcoming bar area. It is all about brick, dark wood, and burgundy leather in here. There are both tables and very comfy booths, along with a full, friendly bar to take care of your thirst. The staff inside is a little more on the ball than the gal outside.

If I were you, I'd start with those wonderful Mushroom Caps on the appetizer menu. They're stuffed with feta, spinach, and roast pepper and let me tell you, they are awesome. Worth every bit of that $7.95. I brought a friend here once and she was so impressed with this appetizer that she just ordered two of those instead of a main meal. She later told me she went back with other friends it was so good.

Now, you're at an Irish Pub, so you absolutely have to go with the Bangers & Mash for your main course, right? This will run ya $10.95 but it is really very good stuff. Maybe not totally equal to what I've gotten in London, but McSorley's does them as well, if not better, than any other State-side place I've ever been. The gravy is especially yummy.

Not in the mood for that? Then try some Sheppard's Pie for the same price. This is a hearty dish done very well and should fill you up no problem. Corned Beef & Cabbage is a staple here around St Patty's too.

It isn't just all about food from the Isles though... which seems a bit odd to me. I mean I had to chuckle when I saw Cajun Shrimp listed.. but whadya gonna do. It's the beach; anything goes. Do try the Reuban Sandwich.. it's freakin huge and they put the Russian dressing on the side for dipping. Most excellent, that.

The service isn't exactly exuberant, but it is friendly and satisfactory. Time doesn't matter when you have such a fantastic view anyway. Relax and enjoy. Like I said... Sit at one of the cafe tables out on the sidewalk anyway and enjoy both the ocean view and the great people watching spot.

I'm going with 4 stars for McSorley's, and recommending you stop in. It's far enough away from the hectic-ness of the main stretch of beach, but still close enough to walk back to after you've relaxed here over a good meal.
