Me as a DCC

I Deserve to Be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader!

Lisa Linthicum
I'm hooked on the CMT show - Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Squad. In my mind, I deserve to be on the squad with Brooke, Kandi, Abigail and the 33 other members. After all, I was a cheerleader 25 years ago. Ouch - that's painful to realize. I was a proud member of my junior high school's squad. We worked hard and put together some awesome routines.

The show has truly demonstrated the amount of dedication and perseverance these young ladies have in order to make the squad. I'm amazed that they still have hundreds of girls show up to try out. CMT and the DCC folks have done a great job at editing together the episodes for maximum drama - the audience definitely feels emotionally connected to the women. I cried when Natalie Woods got cut a couple of years ago. I have cried several times.

I have also cringed at some of the girls. Meagan Flaherty is adorable - but she just got on my nerves. The girl who was late for her uniform fitting last year made me yell at the TV - I mean how irresponsible can you be?

Anyway back to my dreams of being a DCC... I'm sure that Kelli Finglass, the DCC director, will be willing to overlook my complete lack of flexibility that is necessary for the high kicks. She would have to be dazzled by my smile and my determination to show that us "old-timer's" still have it goin' on, wouldn't she? When it comes to the uniform fitting, I might have to get creative to hide the "reminders" of my 3 pregnancies. I have worked hard to stay trim, but wouldn't you know that a person's skin can only stretch so far?

I have managed to stay fit and I would welcome any challenge that Jay Johnson could throw my way. (Must admit that I am not a big fan of running - but I think I could suck it up to make the squad.) I do sit ups and push ups every morning. I think I would be a Power Squad Member - no problem!

When Kitty Carter comes in for her technique classes, I think I would hit the panic button a bit - just like Melissa Rycroft. I just don't like my short-comings being pointed out in front of others by intimidating people. Kitty definitely fills that mold. Something about her just makes me start stammering and sweating.

Make-over time would be the BEST. I mean I would try out for the squad for real if there was a real chance that I would make it to the makeover day. I think it would be fantastic for "experts" to tell what hairstyle, color and make-up would look best on me. Bring on make-over day, ppppllleeeaaassseee!

The photo shoot would be tons of fun too. I would love to be a "star" in front of the camera for a day. I will practice my poses, my sweet smiles and my sexy smoldering looks too. Maybe after my DCC picture day I would be ready to go compete on "America's Next Top Model"!
