Me, You, & YouTube

Unless you are internet novice living uner a rock, you have heard of the the phenomenon known as You Tube. But just in case you haven't, I'll still expalin it for you. You Tube is a site that allows it's members (free membership of course) to upload videos for the world to see. If you thought MySpace was popular, you haven't seen anything. You Tube makes MySpace more interesting by allowing users to upload video to there pages and blogs. But many of the pitfalls MySpace has encountered, You Tube is now facing.
The first will remain a hot topic for adults, the site can be used by sexual predators to reach out to underage users. Parents have difficulty monitoring what images their children post of themselves. One has to admit there are an awful lot of children/teens on You tube performing their versions of "Ms. New Booty." While to some it might be seen as childish antics, there are others who see this in a more sinister matter. This issue alone can leave sites like MySpace and YouTube open to serious liability issues.

But as of this point, the biggest legal issues You Tube is facing is regarding copyrighted material. While the site explicit forbids the use of copyrighted, pornographic, and offensive material; there too many uploads added to daily to possible control it this point. Eventhough You Tube is having some difficulties, the site has received a great deal of national press and attention especially from the recent video blog hoax of LonelyGirl15.

But there are many companies that are clearly seeing the benefit to a site like YouTube. Companies are now creating viral videos just to play on sites like YouTube. Viral videos reach more people than any 30 second commercial on your local networking. Now with sites like Google Video biting You Tube's steeze and all the networks putting full length tv shows on their websites, the future of television is on the internet. And it all started with You...Tube.
