Meager Money

Kathleen Donovan

I refuse to fall victim to,
An inanimate object.

It is recklessly assigned power-
To trade and sell dignity,
To barter for the right to possibility,
To mediate justice.

It alone-
Is responsible for more casualties,
Than all of the world wars,
Combined.

For enough of it,
Some people will betray,
All loyalties,
All logic,
All love.

I will humbly face,
Any fate,
That Mother Nature and Father Time allow-
But I will not define,
My priceless worth,
With meager money.

Not then,
Not now.

Hi Kate, another great one. You should think about putting a book together of your poetry. I'd buy it!
