Meaningful Christmas Activities for Your Homeschool

Brenda Hoffman
The weeks leading up to Christmas tend to fly by with all of the different activities that are involved. This may leave you in a panic, wondering what to do about homeschool lessons. You may find this to be especially true if you want to share the real meaning of the season with your children.

How To Make Your Christmas Lessons Drive Home The Season's Meaning

There are several quick things that you can do in order to create Christmas lessons that share the season's real meaning. This includes some of the following ideas.

Video a story about what would happen if Christ were born today. This will take a lot of prep work but can be a very powerful experience.

Host a birthday party for baby Jesus. While this may sound "cheesy," little kids will really love it. This will give them a chance to give something of ourselves to Christ in order to remember that "Christmas is NOT MY birthday."

Take some time to learn Christmas carols, as well as their meaning and country of origin. This is a great way to become more appreciative of the same carols that you hear each year.

Consider taking Christmas to someone who might not otherwise get to enjoy Christmas. This could be someone at a nursing home, homeless shelter or a halfway house. Regardless of whom you decide to do this for, you will need to notify someone who is in charge of the facility of your plans before carrying them out. You can coordinate snacks and Christmas food to bring along with you. Participating in this activity will be a lot more meaningful for your children than having another Christmas party will.

A Final Word About Homeschooling Throughout The Christmas Season

The point of all of the aforementioned homeschool activities is to allow the love of Christmas to shine through you and your family and onto someone who is in need this holiday season. Taking the time to do so can be very meaningful to everyone involved. So, if you are looking to teach your children the real meaning of Christmas this year, you should consider using one of these activities to do so.
