Move over John Kay, The Meanstreet Riders are riding in like rolling thunder. Not since Steppenwolf and "Born to be Wild" has a band captured the very essence of what being a biker is all about. Their debut album, "High on the Hog", set for a July 2011 release, combines Classic southern Rock , a touch of country and lyrics that speak to heart and soul of everyone who lives to ride.
From the first note of High On the Hog, I was hooked. Every cut of this Album just drugged me in deeper. Closing my eyes, I could smell leather and exhaust, feel the vibrations of a Harley and the wind of a good ride. I had to know more about this band.
The Meanstreet Riders are bikers. Everyone of them. They discovered, like most of us, that the rallies, for the most part, were booking bands that didn't know what being a biker was all about. All having music in their blood, they formed the Meanstreet Riders.
After talking with Dowlin Mayfield ( vocals/guitar), I discovered Meanstreet Riders has bigger plans than being "just another band." These guys are building a brand that bikers and fans of motorcycles can relate to with :
From their kickin logo that is pure tribal/biker, they are developing a line of merchandise that rocks.... rocks enough to have J & P Cycles sign on as a distributor.
Biker enthusiasts and music critics both are writing reviews about this bands music, comparing them to the likes of Eagles, Lynyrd Skynryd, Allman Brothers, and even Zac Brown Band and Tim McGraw. Meanstreet has received five star reviews from known publications such as IronWorks, Cycle Matters, and Austin City Music, as well as some of the top bloggers online.
Meanstreet Riders has captured the eye ( and ears) of some of the motorcycle world 'heavyweights' - Edward Winterhalder ( author and TV show developer - " All Roads Lead to Sturgis" and "Biker Chicz".) , Bruce Motta (SE Regional HOG manager) and Michael Ballard (owner of Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis and star of the TruTV Television show Full Throttle Saloon) Just to name a few.
"I've Had a Good Ride" - their song written about Sturgis, has been added to the Sturgis Museum site's exclusive audio selection, with all proceeds going toward keeping the museum rolling.
Some have said they are "cashing in" on the motorcycle craze. The truth is Meanstreet are simply old school bikers whom happen to be ultra talented musicians that fully understand the biker community and know what they are hungry for - Music with a sound they love and lyrics that live daily within a bikers heart. Music delivered by a band that are clearly one of their own. And if the active fan base of over 32,000 on Facebook from over 80 countries, and a growing group of followers on twitter are any indication of their growing popularity, Meanstreet is definitely on the road to becoming a band and a brand you will be seeing alot of .
