Meatless Monday

Meatless Mondays May Prompt Many to Consider Their Eating Habits

Pat Anthony
Meatless Monday may sound like a strange idea to some. However, with a large vegan and vegetarian population in the United States, there are many able to help those who are trying to avoid meat and join the Meatless Monday group.

Some people may not realize how easy Meatless Monday would be, as they don't realize how little meat they eat now. Once their typical week is reviewed, people are often surprised to find they are already half way there.

To skip meat once each week and declare a Meatless Monday is rather simple. Monday is a day when most dread cooking, so having a simple dinner of pasta, salad, or meatless soup and sandwiches may appeal to the masses.

It is thought that because Monday is at the beginning of the work week for most, this is the day more will agree to make a change. On Mondays more people begin a diet, quit smoking, or make other health changes than any other day of the week.

The idea of Meatless Monday is to do something other than help with meal planning. The thought is that people may be able to reduce their meat intake by 15%, which may result in better health.

According to the website for Meatless Monday, this was started by the non-profit group The Monday Campaigns. This is in association with Johns Hopkins' Bloomberg School of Public Health. On The Monday Campaigns site readers will learn that Mondays are 'the day all health breaks loose.' View this informative and fun site by using the Monday Campaigns link after this article.
