Me-Conomics: Its All About Me!

From President to school teacher and housewife to Hollywood starlet me-conomics has taken a toll on the national conscious and has further encouraged national decline of many future generations. As the nation fully embraces the concept of "me first" values that once pushed the nation up a line of steady economic and civilization growth are muted for something more debase. The scramble for immediate gratification, resources, and rewards has created a "dog eat dog" world of stress and collective loss. The people are screaming more now than nearly any other time in history for better and stronger leadership that gives the people a vision to work for and a new national identity that wipes away the biggest violators of me-economics. Government positions, foreign policy, national debt, school systems and even households have been impacted by the non-stop search to get and receive more.

Me-conomics is a term that describes how the world of me comes before the world of us. The positions of power throughout the nation are sacked and exploited for the greater good of the individual than the needs of the masses. As the nation struggles to maintain its economic might me-conomics will erode away the necessary resources for recovery.

As politicians, government officials and business executives work to protect their positions and fill their bank accounts the resources will simply not be available for organizational and national reform. There won't be enough cushion in the coffers to try something new and possibly more beneficial. Without this cushion the approach will be conservative and growth will continue to slow. This may be one of the reasons why the U.S. is growing at a slow pace and China and Germany are zooming ahead.

Such me-conomic attitudes can even be more devastating with the wholesale raiding of national and corporate coffers for self-gain. It can also destroy future earning power by blocking the reward for innovation the American country was built upon. As violators of me-conomics try and hold their power they stifle and retard great ideas in order to avoid challenge to their positions. Without financial and societal recognition such innovative people will keep their great ideas to themselves slowing progress and growth in society.

If you aware of America's history it was the land of opportunity and progress. Any man who worked hard and built a better "mouse trap" could progress in society. Without opportunities the nation's progress to improvement new ideas and its current strength would not be possible. Incentives and the pursuit of happiness, often in the form of money, have spurred people to continue on a path of constant improvement. Once those incentives are gone, due to the deadening of motivation they will no longer contribute to the national cause. The direct connection between reward and effort must be readily available in people's minds.

Citizens once sat blurry-eyed in their workshops in order to solve very practical problems. They were motivated by both curiosity and financial incentive. However, large corporations have bought and accumulated most of the talented people in the world. If their superiors are unwilling to reward the efforts of progressive employees then such employees with learn through experience to keep their mouths closed and their hands out.

When such me-conomics become so prevalent that leadership is passed among the same families and social networks without new leaders being born with new ideas and innovation the country stops progressing. Its growth and future prospects are retarded. Man no longer works in cooperation with other men for the benefit of the group but must toil away day after day to make shareholders and investors happy. The fruits of labor and the reward received become abstract in large corporations. An extra hour of work does not equal a quick tangible result. Because it is the same group of executives, politicians and investors making the most benefit from new ideas such ideas get lost in worker resentment. There is little reason to bring forward a great idea if a reward is not obvious or concrete.

Me-conomics impacts nearly every facet of life. Politicians who take positions to further their businesses and those of their partners, teachers who vote union to protect their pay, and managers who put down high performing employees for fear that they will take their jobs, and companies that refuse to make "good" on their mistakes. Me-conomics is everywhere and in every business. Nearly everyone engages in it in one form or another. It is so embedded in the national conscious that some may wonder if it is the #1 cultural identity of the era.
