About world affairs journalists cannot be oblivious.
All of us like reporting that is thorough,
I personally try to listen to Scarborough.
We know from the bold Nancy Grace
Criminals cannot expect any embrace.
And isn't Anderson Cooper,
An absolute trooper !
Media though goes after stories that are sensational,
Very few news that I see are inspirational.
They go to extreme lengths for all that sell,
Always shocking things they want to tell.
Good news don't get much coverage,
They're on a mission to do personal damage.
Did you see how eloquently Wolf Blitzer
Talked about the scandal of Spitzer ?
And in the case of McGreevey,
Media added a lot of gravy.
About Britney Spears to Tom Cruise,
Media will help you locate the bruise !
Media is obsessed with the number of viewing,
They all try to excel the Nielsen Rating.
Based on the ranking list,
They provide a journalistic twist.
Programming on cheap topics is often the trade off,
That for sure makes us get ticked off.
Programs are frequently about smut,
Too many of those are focused on slut.
This problem, unfortunately, will always linger,
Benefit will be reaped by the likes of Jerry Springer.
We are the ones who watch the news,
Yet seldom do the media address our views.
Still out of the entire length of conversation,
Good topics do constitute a small portion.
On the web they are also technically correct,
The links will show the bad stuff direct,
But they'll have the rest of the news there;
It is up to us though to find out where.
So, I guess they know how to play the game,
There's no way they will have to take the blame.

I thought about writing this once I read Julia's article : "Is America Getting Too Trashy? "

Post a CommentA Nice article. Thanks for sharing.
I work for a newspaper and I write only the facts and present them in a straight forward way. Our community just had an election and my articles were the main source of info before the vote. It was amazing how many people did not believe what I wrote or read what they wanted and never understood the issue. Then as it turns out less than 6 percent of the voters voted. It is maddening.
Great job!!
Great job on this!!!!!
the media is the watchdog of society.

Very insightful was fellow CP, Rev. Bryan Belrad's comment: Terry Pratchett said "A lie will run around the world while the truth is still getting its boots on." I think the same thing can be said of negative stories."
Congrats, once again. We are both on the same wave length!
Penpress, congrats, for putting the whole essence of mass culture into perspective. And so pithily put in verse, which had both rhyme and reason! It took me lot of verbiage to the say the same thing in 'Who wants good news?':
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/564549/who_wants_good_news.html
from which I give a few quotes:
"It is said, the coherence of negatives is stronger than the coherence of positives. A false rumor of a riot spreads faster than factual news of a peace treaty. Everyone loves a good draught, but nobody notices a plentiful harvest. Dishonesty is reported, but honest lifelong service goes unreported...............The truth is that bad news titillates, but good news does not tickle us. With the advent of mass culture and democratization of media comes the inevitable dumbing down. Both the print media and TV have to pander to the lowest common denominator"

You are so very creative! Another 5 stars for you!!!!
PenPress, I don't think you hurt anyone's feelings, and I'm sorry if my comment came across that way. Teasing doesn't translate well in text. ;) Don't apologize for your work. It's good. The poem is awesome :)
Too true. Broadcast media has always been about advertising to (programming?) people. The only purpose of the content is to get everyone to willingly take them into their homes.
