Media Audiences

Today I began the module Media Audiences, the briefing so far seems self explanatory and they are using mainly television, radio, advertising and films are examples of Audience participation. From what I can gather this is going to be another historical theoretical overview of the Media persuasions upon the public, for which has already been strongly recommended to finally disagree with this influence in our conclusions (Already were being exposed to subliminal suggestions to pass).

The question was posed in the seminar of just how does the Media influence the different audiences and instructed us all to support these ideas with theoretical knowledge and common sense of just how does this differ throughout the different levels of Media. Most of the data collected was extracted from world news, quite recent news. Supportively the teacher had given examples of most current theories published. You know the one about the German theorists from the Frankfurt School who all conveniently absconded from Germany to escape the confines of the German War. Their thoughts of U.S. soil and how there elite education helped support the advertising industry at a time when advertising never actually achieved any noticeable success. It was the same people who created the theories for propaganda to people living in the time of Adolf. They all lived happily in the U.S.A. with this knowledge. This knowledge was hoped to shape the consumer industry. Curiously it didn't quite ever become successful. Within the politics of this I believe they were deemed as Liberal folks with money and a good knowledge of Post-modern ideas. Additionally it was noted the best people to manipulate are those who have been terrorised or feel angry because there more likely to grab the bait of Media pleasures promised.

Earlier in the lecture I had noted a few buzz words the lecturer may approve of, one these is the trough of information. We all have to feed of the same bag of media information. It's this information that most of the other students spoke about, conveniently leaping from one topic to the next, till eventually we all came back to the question that was originally posed. By this time the seminar was nearly over. That is not to say some great news was discussed and equally some great opinions were put into the class pie. Some of the students got chance to introduce there geographical pride of there origin, who there friends were and why, whilst I just still felt I knew the answer to this question. Within the last five minutes our group at the front corner was brought into the discussion. With a question of did we have anything to talk about during the constructive time of discussion between the group.

45 minutes of listening to the trough of Media examples had made me slightly uncomfortable, and the example of much hardcore news expunged from the summer camp I felt slightly uncomfortable. However I gave my example of the 1938 shutdown of the press in the Isle of Man experiment. That subsequently led to outbreaks of violence between the community, the gossip from the tabloids was replaced with the complaints of the neighbours. It was not long before the newspapers were up and running and all this violence subsided. Notably much of the unusual rage came from the local women.

In conclusion what I realized today about the Media audiences is that of how people participate in the delivery of targeted news. It was this time I realised this topic is a lot more exciting now we have the explosion of the computer where people are able to co-ordinate there own news casting. However the geographical location will always change the opinions of global information. Traditions differ between locations, some countries have a ground in influence over culture, others still have an expression of materials and fashion. However one thing that unites us is food. Hence the trough of the Media. We devour this news, we can't wait for the next recipe, and we get bogged down by the digestion of the bones of lexical and repetitive news. This is one example I presume of how the political influence can become embroiled in the things we buy, the topics we discuss with family and loved ones, and can even co-ordinate unnatural fears. After-all a scared student is a controllable student.

By putting entertainment to one side and avoiding any stimulating content, I feel progression within the Media content will be revealed however because many of these new efficiencies of the advertising industry and the way in which were exposed to films and TV is of such a high quality we no longer need props, such as books, instruments or ironing. Even popcorn is in dispute. The visual effect is sustenance in itself. The beauty of it's glossary differs from country to country but what I feel is being influenced the most is way in which evolution takes place in the family environment. No longer are we restricted to Grandma's opinion. We have supported evidence from Liberal, conservative, Labour and geopolitical rosettes of belief.

Finally it was suggested that already the Big Brother era was fading away. No longer are students excited by watching normal people on TV. What has replaced this is the students want to not only be the actors but they want to be the cameramen, the producers, the investors and they are doing this through You Tube and Vimeo. The television has that effect but what seems to be the case is a noticed regression back to Media types: The rise of the comic, the radio and the celebrity. This suggests the politicians are doing there job. During times of conflict this reliance is always imminent. That is not to say it's right or wrong I'll leave that decision to the editors, the journalists and the elite few who control things.

From the 1920's & 1930's the media started to reach mass audiences through politics. We have met this idea before and we call it propaganda. Look at Russia Media manipulated audiences for ideological and political purposes.
