Media, Cable News Types Feasting on Each Other

A Page Out of the "Cannibal's Guide to Good Eating"

Snidely Whiplash
Joe Scarborough, in a page right out of the "Cannibal's Guide To Good Eating," took a big bite of Glenn Beck and he choked on it. Joe got rather busy denouncing Beck for calling Obama a racist once, for which Beck did apologize. But Scarborough wasn't done yet. Not happy that his feet were not yet in his mouth he continued on with stating "Beck is a nobody...."

What was Scarborough's point, might one wonder? I mean Joe would know the contemporary definition of "nobody" as that describes him and his level of viewership over at DNC/NBC. For the record, Glenn Beck had the third highest rated syndicated radio program in the nation long before he was ever on Fox. Rush was and is numero uno, followed by Hannity's radio program, then Beck in third place. I have been listening to Beck's radio show since 2003, long before he was on CNN Headline News and then Fox in January of 2009.

As well I bet Beck was making more money and had a larger audience than Scarborough has ever had, and long before his TV gig at Fox. In media, and both Beck and good old Joe are media types, the number of viewers and one's salary are the measuring sticks. So Joe, what was your point again? Beck made and makes much more than you. Beck's audience on radio slams your TV audience. When ya add Beck's TV audience, Scarborough is a pip squeak calling out the big fella.

Now I know a few will want to know why I am defending the vile Glenn Beck. First, Beck isn't vile, and I am not defending him at all, but as my title indicated, am enjoying the show as the minor attacks the major, telling the bigwig he's a "nobody." Joe was at his most "Hey, Olbermann and Matthews' will back me up on this one" best.

Since when is media the story? This is a perfect example of an event that media decided to make more about them than the story. Whereas over at Fox News, Roger Ailes, the man running Fox News, made certain to instruct his people that the media were not the stories and to temper their on air presentations. And Ailes made that admonition to his news and OPINION people. Basically he was instructing them to keep it real.

See the difference between pip squeaks and towering giants? Pip squeaks make a racket over the process to get others interested in what the pip squeak is squalling about, whereas real players in the mix know that if they do their job perfectly, they will not be the story at all but instead be what they are supposed to be...a belt of transmission for the public. Media, or the "press" as they were previously known, were known as the "Fourth Estate." They are supposed to be our watchdogs over government and not like MSNBC, a transmission belt for government issues to be disseminated to the citizens - "lean forward" and all that rot!

Most modern media fails in an epic manner in their duty. Media has become a bastion of liberal thought and dissemination. This might surprise some, but I know a few who work in news media...one on air personality and a couple behind the scenes producers, camera operators, etc., in the television news business. They all roll their eyes and nod their heads vigorously admitting that news media is no longer an unbiased entity, but is now almost entirely an entity that endeavors to present what they want the public to know.

Spin is a new fangled aspect to news media. And of course everyone has some spin...only a liar would pretend otherwise. And of course Fox appears right biased because of a complete lack of left bias. I would offer a challenge to the sycophants but they will never pick up the gauntlet because to do so jeopardizes their ideological positions. What challenge? Do what I do.

When I hear a story I usually google search and read a few other sources, and specifically NOT Townhall, New Republic or any other clearly right biased organization. I discern the facts and then compare the positioning of the news presentation on other sites. Guess what? Fox presents the most facts with the least pejorative opinion and snarky commentary in so doing. I am talking NEWS here and not opinion stuff of Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, but STRICTLY news!

Let me ask the sycophancy a rhetorical question. How did Fox become so powerful? It was DIRECTLY the result of left biased news organizations being so glaringly left biased. Of course a lefty doesn't see that, but guess who does? Independents! Those seeking news with as little spin as possible. Remember Fox is only 12 years old and have been crushing old media for years now. How can that be? Do any of the old media usual suspects fit this mold?

The NY Times? CBS? NBC? ABC? CNN? MSNBC? Time? Newsweek? See my point? All of the old media bastions are faltering badly because they refuse to leave their liberal opinion in the editorial meetings and instead weave their mosaic into most political and social news coverage. Before we had something to compare to the citizens did not see the insidiousness of media's little effort, but when we get news sans opinion it is obvious how biased the old media has become. It took new media seeing a different path to success for citizen's to see what was going on.

And now most old media are on a cannibalistic rant to devour their fellow news organizations. Each does this for the shock factor, to get folks incensed and to gain readership, viewers and the controversy they need to increase their power. If Joe Scarborough makes inflammatory statements he hopes folks tune in to hear them. It's about name recognition that will hopefully for them turn to viewers, ratings and cash. Joe's late to the "Bash Beck party" though. He saw a chance and leaped, feet in mouth, to taste success. He failed.

So eat your fill of your fellow media members and take an especially big bite out of the shakers and movers, cause that's as close as you'll ever get to their rarefied air. Suck in deep, you tools! I bet next on the menu slated for cannibalistic delight will be your lame asses. Now THAT I'll enjoy watching.

    Joe who?

  • Lloyd Thomas1/12/2011

Mr. Pennington, I could not agree more. The problem is, the cannibals are sniffing around the free market with drool on their chins.

  • Donald Pennington1/12/2011

LOL @ David. Why would anyone be needed to make that decision? Let the "eaters and the eatees" work it out, themselves. Free market competition is perfectly adequate by itself.

  • Major Jester1/12/2011

    I like your assessment, Whip.

    Perhaps a little cannibalism would be an planet-saving diet. Problem would be, of course, who decides which people get to be the eaters and which the eatees!? :-}
