Media Slip-Ups

Kerry's Comments and the Backlash

Agaric
I'm appalled. Does anyone really have their underwear in a knot over what John Kerry said? Are you that concerned about preserving the high opinion of the US troops and impeccable lines of decency for American officeholders? Or are you simply grabbing your torch and pitchfork or rushing with your bucket of water to either incite or put out the flames of the media circus?

Back in the proverbial day, no one gave a shit about this stuff. You know why? Because they didn't know about it. This triviality wouldn't even become 6:00 news material once television came along. The internet allows us instant access to every little nook and cranny of the world. We have an entire porthole into injustice, greed, death, and tyranny, and this is what we're getting a corkscrew up our asses over? A slip-up during a speech? Christ, there's much more interesting schlock on CNN, including a kind of counterfeit Russian vodka that turns your eyes yellow then kills you. See the bright ball? Run to the bright ball.

In July a similar slip-up occurred when President Bush wasn't aware his microphone was still on during a talk with British Prime Minister Tony Blair. He remarked that Syria needed to get Hezbollah to "stop doing this shit." I was amazed. But not in the way you'd probably think. This was one of the few occasions where I have heard the President speak his true thoughts. Not the hesitating, bullshit rhetoric that comes out of an ass-vocalizer, but an expression of pure frustration and opinion. If there was ever a moment of the cowboy president, this was it. Personally I'd rather have a president or any government leader who can every once and a while show that kind of humanity. In steps the media.

Why did the president saying the word "shit" become a front page story on CNN? Shit, shit, shit. We say it all the time. College professors say it, businessmen say it, and yes...even world leaders say it. Who gives a shit? John Kerry makes a mistake in a speech. Is it that ridiculously unjust? Is it something that will decide the fate of an impending election? Should it?

This incident is more of an embarrassment than an indicator, and if you as American citizens aren't the ones embarrassed, then you damn well should be. If you're that concerned about decency and integrity, then stop calling each other liberal ass-goblins and conservative cunt-rags. Thank you.

My, you're prolific. (As in # of articles - and not children - you've produced. We all know where you stand on that issue. And rightly so, I might add.) For this one: nicely (if not profanely) put. My sister asked me what I thought of the whole debacle: I'll just forward her your link.
