Medical Conditions that Can Be Attributed to Fluctuations in Estrogen or Pregnancy and Condition Relief Tips

Women often have minor medical conditions that can be bothersome, here are some of the common ailments and some tips on how to deal with them.

Bleeding gums

Bleeding gums may be caused by the stimulating effects of estrogen. If you have gums that bleed often, try using a soft bristled toothbrush and rinsing more regularly with a bacteria killing rinse. Visit your dentist as soon as possible for a proper dental examination.

Nasal Stuffiness

The effects of estrogen can cause vasocongestion and nasal stuffiness. If you experience nasal stuffiness, try using a cool mist humidifier at night, another tip is the use of normal nasal saline sprays. Avoid decongestant sprays or steroid sprays because of the rebound stuffiness effect.

Nosebleeds

Nosebleeds happen because there is a breakdown of the tiny veins in the nasal lining. Dry nasal passages often complicate nosebleeds. Tips for nosebleeds are avoid vigorous nose blowing, use a cool mist humidifier as much as possible. Drink plenty of fluids to keep your body hydrated and use normal saline sprays in your nose to keep your passages moist.

Nausea

Nausea can be caused by anything in pregnancy it is caused by the rising HCG level, however nausea can be caused by everything from something you ate to not eating something when you take any medicines. Tips for nausea include begin the day by eating something, even if your dieting a quick breakfast of just toast can help keep nausea at bay. Eat small meals frequently throughout the day. Avoid noxious odors of any kind. Monitor your medications to see if your medications are making you nauseated.

Faintness

The leading cause of faintness is postural hypotension which is when your blood pressure drops and this can occur whether your pregnant or not. Typically dieters also experience faintness due to lack of fluid and food intake. Blood sugar may drop causing a faint feeling. Tips for faintness is changing positions slowly such as rising from a sitting or lying position more slowly so as to give your body time to adjust. Eat small more frequent meals to keep your blood sugar levels from dropping drastically.

Fatigue

The actual cause of fatigue is unknown however many people will experience it from time to time. Tips for fatigue include taking daily naps. Allow for rest periods throughout the day and go to bed earlier. Sleep is something nobody can do without so if your constantly on the go, you may want to cut back.

Heartburn

Heartburn can effect anyone, especially pregnant women. However heartburn can be a chronic condition that needs to be evaluated by a physician. Tips for occasional heartburn include eating small more frequent meals instead of larger meals. Avoidance of smoking, caffeine, chocolate, peppermint, spicy foods and eating before you go lie down. Sit up and breath normally. Taking OTC acid reducing medications can help but if your pregnant you should talk to your physician before taking any medication. Avoid lying flat also, using a wedge pillow can help tremendously with heartburn.

Trouble sleeping

Many people have trouble sleeping, especially pregnant women. However sleep disturbances are perfectly normal and some tips to help include:
Get adequate exercise and try sleeping in different positions. Drink a warm glass of milk before bed. Try doing muscle relaxation techniques such as massage, yoga.

I've been a nurse for many years and while most medical conditions can be attributed to fluctuations in estrogen or pregnancy, it is always advisable to see your physician if these ailments are recurrent or consistent in nature. These tips are just meant as a guide to help you deal with the conditions and should in no way take the place of you seeing your medical physician for a proper evaluation.
