Medical Conditions that Cause Numbness in Your Toes

Our feet go through maximum amount of stress each day. Hence, it is important to care for our feet. Very often, we hear people complaining of numbness in toes. The numbness may be accompanied by tingling sensation or a feeling of having pins and needles. Sometimes, this may be followed by discoloration of the skin, where the skin may start appearing yellow. In some cases, there may be calluses or peeling of the skin. All these things are indicative of an underlying cause and it is important to determine what causes of numbness in toes?

Some of the most common causes of numbness in toes are ill-fitting shoes, nerve compression, gout, diabetes, inflammation of the bone, bunions, peripheral neuropathy, and cervical spondylosis. Sometimes, the numbness may not be accompanied by pain, but can still lead to a lot of discomfort.

Wearing ill-fitting shoes is one of the biggest problems in women. However, even men experience problems when they wear shoes that are not the right size or when the laces are tied up really tight. Wearing the right size is very important in order to avoid problems in the future.

Sometimes, tight shoes can cause a compression of the nerve. This can also be one of the main causes of numbness in toes. Injury to the toe may also cause nerve compression and this may need medical intervention.

High levels of uric acid in the blood can cause a condition called gout. This can also lead to numbness in the big toe. In order to ascertain uric acid levels, you have to undergo diagnostic tests. Once that is confirmed, the condition will have to be treated.

In case you are diabetic you have to be extremely cautious about your feet.Veryoften, diabetes is one of the leading causes of numbness in toes. If you notice pain or discoloration of the big toe along with the numbness, you must seek medical intervention before it is too late.

Bunions appear as a bump near the base of the big toe and it can be extremely painful. This may also cause numbness in the big toe. Bunions will have to be removed through a small surgical procedure.
