Medical Marijuana in Denver, Colorado

In 2000 the people of Colorado passed Amendment 20 legalizing the medical use of marijuana. But the federal government during that time actively and aggressively harassed and arrested the people that grew it, cultivated it or sold it. It was during the Bush administration that these people lost their freedoms on something approved and legalized; and even though President Obama stated that if people are following the rules of the states that legalize medical marijuana there won't be any prosecution, there hasn't been any change. It is a shame that, the 'Freest Nation' in the world blatantly ignores the people who are supposed to be making the rules. But then again, our government has done that since it's inception.

The Preamble, although not law but a definition of what our country is supposed to be, clearly states in it's beginning paragraph, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." I think those are some of the most powerful words in regards to what freedom is supposed to be, We The People have let the government destroy our rights and trample upon our right to decide our laws.

In August 2007 the DEA raided a house in Pueblo that grew medical marijuana, perfectly legal according to Amendment 20. Which is, by the way, what We The People decided was legal. But the DEA in it's infinite wisdom has decided to ignore it pledge and oath to protect our constitutional rights. 55 year old Thomas sexton was arrested.

In February 2010 the DEA again raided a house in Highlands Ranch, CO and arrested Chris Bartkowicz. Saying that 'The special agent in charge of the DEA in Denver says federal law still makes growing and selling marijuana illegal' once again ignoring the American Citizen the right to decide what is legal and what isn't legal.

The reasoning behind the illegalization in the 1930's was based upon scare tactics by many different anti-hemp groups; the FBN's Harry J. Anslinger is one of the main people that manipulated the public with false evidence and eventually convinced the Supreme Court decision on the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. You couldn't get a tax stamp for the marijuana unless you had the item in your possession, and that eventually ended in the persons arrest and prosecution. Because you were in possession of something illegal before you had the tax stamp to exclude you from that law, but you needed to have the illegal item to get the tax stamp. What a scam that was to imprison people for simply having marijuana and trying to get it legally, it is somewhat a similar situation today.
