I developed diabetes after becoming pregnant. At the time my insurance company would only cover the One Touch Ultra products so, that is what I used. After having my baby I remained diabetic and still used the One Touch Ultra monitor. The One Touch Ultra was a great product. It gave fast and accurate readings which I was very happy with. The monitor only took 5 seconds to give me my blood sugar levels and it had a 14 and 30-day average on the monitor to track my progress. I really liked that I could test my forearm instead of my fingers as well. The product was very reliable and reasonable, however when I quit my job to stay at home with my son and no longer had insurance we just could not afford the test strips for the One Touch Ultra. The test strips were completely unreasonable costing nearly a dollar a strip or $90 for one hundred strips. This was something that we just could not afford. It was at this time that we decided to look for another glucose monitor.
When I went to my doctor for my monthly checkup, she gave me a True Track Smart System. This was a free monitor and the test strips were half the price of the One Touch Ultra. When you test yourself 3 to 5 times a day you can easily run out of strips. So the dramatic drop in test strip price was initially very appealing! I looked online to see how much the True Track monitor cost in case the one I have decided to break. They only retail for about $18 which is 1/3 of the cost of the One Touch Ultra which costs around $70. After using the True Track Smart System I found that the features the monitor offered were very similar to that of the One Touch Ultra. It also had a 14 and 30-day average and you could test from different locations. The True Track Smart System does take an additional 5 seconds, taking a total of 10 seconds for the reading to show. I don't mind waiting an extra 5 seconds if it saves me almost half on test strips. One feature that I liked more than the One Touch Ultra is that the True Track Smart System offered a chip with the strip code on it. All you have to do is insert the smart chip into the monitor and you can start testing. With the One Touch Ultra you have to put the code in your self which can take some time, and must be exactly right to get a reading.
If I had to choose one product it would definitely be the True Track Smart System. Even if I were the wealthiest person on the planet, I would use the True Track Smart System. There was literally no difference in how the products work and the test strips are nearly half the price of the One Touch Ultra glucose monitor system. If you are uninsured and are looking for a dependable, inexpensive way to monitor your blood glucose levels, think about trying a True Track Smart System monitor fist. There's no reason to pay more money for products that do the same exact thing
