What is Migraine?
Migraine is a vascular head ache which is some times associated with nausea, constipation, vomiting etc. Any person experiencing headache for more than 48 hours or if the migraine attack is frequent, then it is always advisable that the person should consult the physician. Many prescription medicines are available for this disease. Persons using Out of the Counter medicines should also consult because many of the Out of the Country medicines could be allergic to the user.
The migraine headache, if it is not properly treated, may result in certain complications. Headaches which last for considerable duration may lead to changes in the neurological area of the brain which may correlate to the neurological changes that takes place during stroke.
Migraine headache may also result in nausea and vomiting. It may also cause the feeling of light and sound, jerking in the eyes, ringing in the ears. It also results in loss of consciousness. It may also result in severe vertigo.
Types of Migraine:
Cluster headache is another type of migraine. Cause of this head ache is not known. Cluster headache may cause for a few minutes to hours or days. Surprisingly, cluster headache occurs more in men than women. Even if the patient takes rest or goes to bed, he may not get any relief.
Causes for Migraine:
Those medicines containing nitroglycerines may also cause migraine. People who consume alcohol, those who have physical and mental exertion, change of weather, seasonal changes, menstruation, insomnia, allergy, hunger, staying in high altitude and sometimes fluorescent lights are all said to cause migraine.
What are the medicines?
Medicines available for the use include DHE or Migranal. This is available in the form of injections and even as nasal spray. Prednisone, Lithium Carbonate and Verapamil are other medicines available for the cure of migraine. Several medicines are available to fight this disease. Many research works have also been made and much progress has been made in this regard. Apart from prescription medicines, there are many Out of the Counter medicines. Medicines like Triptan or Imitrex and non steroid medicines like Ibruprofen, Naproxen are some of the known medicines for treatment of migraine headache. In addition to medicines there are many therapy treatments available which also effectively cure the disease.
Much scientific research has been made to find out the causes for migraine head ache and the procedure for the cure. Many breakthroughs have been made to unravel the causes for this disease.
