Higher altitude, mountain views and fresh air all evoke the perfect place for meditation and contemplation. This is exactly what we have in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The first meditation center we are reviewing is High Desert Yoga. High Desert Yoga has two Albuquerque locations. They offer a variety of Hatha yoga styles; Iyengar, Restorative, Kundalini and Vinyasa Flow yoga. Specialty yoga classes are available for expectant mothers, seniors, cancer care, back care and they also offer classes in partnership with UNM Continuing Education. The staff is skilled in various specialty areas and have a wide range of backgrounds. There are certified instructors, a psychotherapist, an ordained swami, a physical therapist and many years of learning and training among them all. They offer classes, retreats and workshops.

Next we take a look at Nob Hill Yoga Center. The director of Nob Hill Yoga is a registered yoga teacher, trained at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York City, certified in Hatha yoga and certified in therapeutic yoga. There are five other registered yoga teachers on staff. Nob Hill also offers workshops, retreats and classes to cater to every taste. They even have a night owl class to accommodate those with a challenging schedule.

The Albuquerque Diamond Way Buddhist Center provides a relaxed environment where people can investigate Buddhist teachings and meditations. This is one of over 600 centers around the world founded and directed by lama Ole Nydahl.

The Kadampa Meditation Center is also located in Albuquerque. It is open to everyone and the Center offers meditation classes, day courses and retreats. They also have a book store, gift shop and a peace garden. A class schedule is available on their website and contains a large number of available classes on an ongoing basis.

And finally, Shambhala Meditation Center. This is a place for the practice of meditation, and for the study of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings. The Albuquerque Center is an old New Mexico style adobe with hearth warmed community spaces, outdoor contemplation gardens, walking meditation paths, a fire circle and a shrine room. They offer classes, weekend workshops and single-evening programs on Buddhism and the Shambhala path. Mediation sessions are open to the public and free of charge. Meditation Instruction is also free of charge and is offered in a group format once a month. You can also make an appointment for one-on-one meditation instruction.
