Spirituality has been known to keep weight manageable. And the Bible does talk about meditation of the Lord's word. So even if you are a Christian struggling with your weight, you can find peace and rest. The bible says. Be Still and know that I am God. What could be clearer than to stop and meditate. Even Jesus went to the desert to fast and pray and probably meditate.
If you make a habit of resting your mind thirty minutes a day, I think you will improve your thinking and calm your nerves so that you can think about exercising more and eating less. Exercise is also known to boost your mood, but unless you have the motivation to step up the physical activity, it can be hard to start.
Making time to meditate is as simple as lying down and listening to a relaxation CD with alpha or theta waves. Or you could sit in total silence and quiet your mind. Or even look intensely at a flower or crystal. Some people use Zen techniques. Whatever gets you to a quiet place and lets you rejuvenate your mind and get in control of your emotions.
The idea of meditation is simple, sit or lie down quietly and clear your thoughts. But it can be a constant challenge to do so. No one meditates well. Even if you are a total beginner, you can meditate almost as well as someone who has done it for a long time.
It can also boost creativity and help you with obsessive thoughts. It is important to do it for your health as well. It can help blood pressure and prolong your life. It is amazing how much a half an hour a day of quiet stillness can do for the mind, body, and soul. You might find yourself praying, like I have. Which is sort of like meditation, only talking to God in a different way.
I think if you want to improve any part of your life, meditation can help you. It can give you a good habit in order to overcome a bad one like smoking or drinking too. It helps you feel better so you don't have to drink to feel better. I can't think of enough good things to say about meditation after losing 55 lbs. It helped me be less preoccupied with food and helped me find the courage to face my problems. We don't have a magic cure all, but meditation certainly helps.
