Meditation: The Pathway to a Better Relationship

Kevin Lamb
The third dimensional mind is the most powerful tool we have, yet it's often used as a weapon against ourselves, and our loved ones. Everyday our minds are filled with hundreds of negative thoughts and emotions which effects our emotional outlook toward others.

Trying to live a happy and productive life with all of these negative thoughts dominating our minds, is like trying to balance the Empire state building on the head of a pin, it just can't be done. In order to have a meaningful relationship you must first be mentally aware.

Mixed Emotions

Our lives and our relationships with others are all influenced by thought patterns which dominates our minds. Fear based emotions such as: loss of control, jealousy, regret, envy, and low self esteem, are just some of the emotions the ego provides which robs the mind of its mental well being.

With a low feeling of self our emotional lives are now trapped in the vastness of our minds. Our ego begins to take over, and we're destined to be enslaved by the negative thought patterns of the mind.

The mental feeling of "self" has been disturbed when the emotion of fear enters the picture. Now your mental outlook is in jeopardy. When these destructive emotions begin to dominate the mind, a new outlook on reality is desperately needed.

In order to have a good relationship with anyone you must first understand yourself. What emotions are mostly triggered in your mind? Do you feel the need to hold unto something which you feel you're losing control of? Once you understand what causes your fears and destructive emotions, (and react correctly) then you're ready to enjoy a much more fulfilling relationship.

Releasing Stress

One way to cease and control these destructive emotions, and also gain mental control, is to practice a form of meditation. Today there are more forms of meditation than there are colors of trees in the forest. Finding the correct form of meditation for your specific need is just literally a breath away.

Breathing has been stated as a great form of relaxing, and also slowing down the mental chatter in the mind. Although breathing is something we do naturally, focusing on it is another matter. To be conscious of your breathing means to be "mentally conscious." As your mind is conscious of your breathing your mental thoughts begin to disappear before you realize it.

Webster's dictionary defines meditation as: "a discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the conditioned, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness." This "conditioned" mind is what most people think of as normal brain activity.

Sense of Self

Our sense of reality (or feeling of self) is what dominates our mind. Getting beyond the conditioned mind can sometimes be helped by: visiting a physic, or being taught to mediate (and reprogram the mind). This can be instructed by a person who is trained in metaphysics.

Unlocking what cases these negative emotions is the key to controlling and possibly even getting rid of these destructive thought patterns. The causes of these negative thoughts can be understood through meditation. Fear based emotions are sometimes carried over from past lives, and understanding what causes these fears can be helped in a "past life regression" done by someone who specializes in regression therapy.

Here are several types of meditations you can try to see which one best suits your particular spiritual needs. Each one of these meditations fulfills certain needs of the mind and soul, and helps to increase your mental attitude and abilities.

Upward meditation

This is a meditation which is used to lift the consciousness out of the body. This is done to reverse the gravity flow on consciousness. This meditation helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Heart rate and blood pressure can be controlled when mastering this form of meditation.

Heart rhythm meditation

This meditation is used to pull the richness out of the universe into the mind and body. This downward flow of energy is called love. This meditation results in massive creativity, courage and compassion. This is an excellent meditation for developing emotional traits which are needed in maintaining a relationship.

Mind centered meditation

The mind centered meditation is a non-emotional meditation. The goal to this meditation is to have no mental thoughts. You begin by making the gaps between the thoughts longer and longer until there's a "sweet silence" in the mind. In this silence of the mind is where our true self exists. This quiet place in the mind is also where inspiration and creativity comes from, the "zone" of the mind. Of course this meditation develops patience which is also essential in developing and keeping a strong relationship.

Observer meditation

This meditation is all about emotional observation. This is the whole ball of wax. If you can recognize a destructive emotion when it enters the mind your at least in the right mental ballpark. The next step is to find out exactly what causes these emotions.

This is a Buddhist meditation. The lessons in this meditation are observation and adjustment. You learn to monitor your mental attitude which is great for keeping your emotions in check. Some very heated arguments in a relationship have been started over uncontrolled emotions.

Visualization meditation

This is one of the most common used meditations. In this meditation the mind begins to soar. As your thoughts are controlled in your mind; the "mind's eye" begins to open. With practice this meditation can be used to gain spiritual information on: emotional problems, fears, past lives, extra sensory perception on future or past activities.

When the mind is free the options are endless. Emotionally suffocating our minds is quite possibly the worst sin of all. Learning to reprogram the negative thoughts of the mind; through meditation or consulting a physic (to better understand your fears) is the most important step in keeping a relationship not only strong; but everlasting.
