DP: Who are you?:
I am 52 and was born in Seattle, WA. I lived in Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Northern Virginia growing up and currently live in Richmond, VA.
DP: What initially drew you to AC? Or, How did you hear of AC?
I don't remember exactly how I heard about Associated Content-probably as a result of a Web search looking for paying sites for writers. I have enjoyed publishing to AC, in spite of some frustrations and minor complaints. Overall, the site has evolved in many positive ways and is still one of the few sites that offers some upfront payments plus the ability to earn a relatively high revenue for page views. I have used my CP page as part of my portfolio.
DP: What genre are you wanting to publish the most?
I have a Web site where I publish devotionals, www.momprays.com, and that is my first love in terms of writing. I've also written informational articles on a multitude of topics. I'm interested in many things, and my writing reflects my diverse and somewhat eclectic interests. I also write a great deal of poetry and have lately been writing some fiction short stories.
DP: What are your favorite titles so far?
This is actually the first article I had published on AC, so it is a sentimental favorite. I have been told that I did a good job rearing my own children, caring for about 2 dozen others over the years and teaching 20 others in a formal preschool setting. Good parenting is not easy, and everybody doesn't have a knack for it. I am passionate about helping parents be the best they can for their children, so this is one I feel really good about.
One of my "hobbies" is creative organizing; frugal living with a twist! I love this article because it offers creative, thoughtful, yet affordable gifts for even those who don't' know well or who you think already have everything.
DP: How has AC Treated you so far?
From time to time I've been frustrated with the lack of support and some of the seeming random decisions that have been made. Other times I've been pleasantly surprised by how quickly a problem or issue was resolved for me. So . . . like any other undertaking in life, there is good and bad - but mostly good!
DP: Where else have you been published?
I have been published at helium.com, gather.com, triond.com and numerous other on-line sites. I'm also the Parenting editor for "Mahogany" magazine and have won an honorable mention from Writer's Digest for a poem I submitted last year.
DP: Please tell us about your favorite pet.
My favorite pet is no longer with our family. He died last month. Bingo is a dog my husband and I rescued from the County pound. He was a gift to my son on his fourth birthday. My son will turn 20 in May, so Bingo was with us for a very, very long time. He was the smartest dog I've ever known, he actually risked his life on one occasion to save my husband when two dogs attacked my husband while walking Bingo. He was a loyal companion and very much a member of our family. We miss him a great deal.
DP: What would you do with a million dollars?
With a million dollars I would pay off my house first. I would donate 10% to my church. I would give each of my children some of the money to use for a house or other use of their choice. I think I would save the rest to live on for a while and give my husband a chance to not work so hard to support us.
DP: In 100 words or more; where do you want to be when you're 50?
Since I'm already past 50, I will say I am not where I thought I would be! Having said that, it's not bad or good, it's just what it is. I feel tremendously blessed by my family, my friends, my church and the experiences in my life. I consider myself a writer, and I hope to have a book of poetry self-published soon. I want to help people, and even at my age, I haven't figured out any "big" ways to do that, so I do as much as I can in any way I can to try to make the world a better place.
I am a life-long learner and I have been taking college courses and other trainings my entire adult life. In the fall I hope to begin a Master's of Christian Education program through one of the seminaries in Richmond. Much of the course work can be done on-line and it offers some flexibility for learners desiring to complete the Master's program. I also plan to expand my public speaking ministry and hope to publish a book of devotions and other inspirational writings in the next couple of years.
I hope I live to be 100 because I have a lot I still would like to accomplish, and a lot I would still like to experience.
DP: What is you're favorite quote about writing?(and who gets the credit?)
"Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. Habakkuk 2:1-3
DP: If you had any advice for newbies to get better exposure, what would you say?
Don't be shy about promoting yourself. Be true to yourself. Accept some work for no pay if you think it will help you achieve your goal, but don't keep giving it away! Never give up, keep an open mind and think outside the box.
DP: Well I'm really glad you took part in this! Many others will be glad to read you!
