Meet Van Jones: Barack Obama's Green Jobs Czar
Van Jones is Appointed as Special Advisor on Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation for the White House Council on Environmental Quality
Given the fact that these White House advisors are clearly an effort by the Obama administration to evade oversight, it would be wise to take a critical look at the people being appointed to these positions of power. On March 10, 2009, Van Jones was appointed by Obama to be the Special Advisor on Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation for the White House Council on Environmental Quality; in other words, Jones is Obama's newly appointed "Green Jobs Czar."
Van Jones, age 41, is a graduate of Yale Law School and a civil rights lawyer. He co-founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, a "non-profit agency for justice, opportunities and peace." Jones wrote 2008's The Green Collar Economy, his book about green jobs. Jones is the also the founder of Green for All, another non-profit that promotes an "inclusive green economy." On the surface, it seems that he would be a good choice as an advisor to the President. But, there is much more to this self described radical communist and black nationalist.
The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, co-founded by Van Jones, was named for a little known civil rights activist. Her biography on the website states she was "a respected and influential leader in the fight for human and civil rights until her death on December 13, 1986." Nowhere, however, will you find that she was an avowed socialist. According to World Net Daily, Baker's ideas have been credited with influencing the philosophy of the Students for a Democratic Society, from which the Weathermen evolved. The "legal" support network for the Weather Underground was the Prairie Fire Organizing committee, a far-left group with which Baker was involved. Furthermore, in 1976, Baker participated in a conference, "Hard Times," the purpose of which was to unite the far-left into a new communist party here in the United States. The organizer of this meeting was Jennifer Dohrn, sister of Bernadine Dohrn. You might recognize those names. Bernadine is the husband of Weatherman radical Bill Ayres, whose ties to President Obama were highly publicized during the 2008 campaign.
Van Jones was also a founder of another radical group, STORM (Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement.) STORM was founded in 1994 initially to protest the Gulf War and went on to become one of the most active radical groups working with communist leaders in the San Francisco Bay area. One most curious item regarding Van Jones' involvement with STORM is that a STORM newsletter ran a tribute to the late Marxist revolutionary Amilcar Cabral, leader of the Guinea-Bissau and the Cape Verde Islands. It is reported that Van Jones named his son after Cabral and quotes the communist letter to conclude his emails.
After STORM, Jones moved on to environmentalist causes. In a 2005 interview, he even made the claim that his environmental activism was a way to fight for racial and class justice. In 1992, Jones was arrested and held briefly during the protest that ensued after the Rodney King verdict was handed down. Regarding his custody, Van Jones told the East Bay Express in 2005, "I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th (1992), and then the verdicts came down on April 29th. By August, I was a communist. (...)I met all these young radical people of color - I mean really radical: communist and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.' I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary."
Jones continued, "I'll work with anybody, I'll fight anybody if it will push our issues forward. I'm willing to forgo the cheap satisfaction of the radical pose for the deep satisfaction of radical ends."
"There is a green wave coming, with renewable energy, organic agriculture, cleaner production. Our question is: Will the green wave lift all boats? That's the moral challenge to the people who are the architects of this new, ecologically sound economy." He then states, "Will we have eco-equity or will we have eco-apartheid? Right now we have eco-apartheid."
So, Van Jones, the activist who has participated in a plethora of activities such as radical Black Nationalism, communism and anarchism, is our nation's new Green Jobs Czar. The White House Blog states his duties will be to create green job-generating climate policy and ensuring equal opportunity in the administration's energy proposals. To achieve this, billions of dollars are being spent to create the green jobs, "careers of the future." These billions are flowing through the White House Council on Environmental Quality without any congressional oversight.
President Barack Obama wrote about himself in his memoir, "To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists." It appears that Obama continues to choose his friends carefully. Maybe we ought to pay better attention to those he chooses.

Post a CommentCompelling. I think that people like Jones and Obama, who are essentially privileged elites, feel guilty aobut themselves and this leads to a type of instability. They need to find solidity, therefore, in pre-programmed ideological dogma such as you find in Leninism. Since they have no originality, the Marxist-Leninist line gives them an importance they would not otherwise have. Proof of instability iw evident in his participation in the 9-11 Truther Movement. You've heard of that, right? In other words, this close adviser to Obama is pushing an "investigation" into the psychotic notion that the Bush Administration planned and executed 9-11. Unfortunately, America can ill afford it while Obama and Van Jones and several others work out their identity crises.
Doesn't do any good to know that barack is an undocumented punk; he's still running the show. How long would it take to putting where he belongs: behind bars.
Live and learn: Banana republic Honduras ousted their president for messing with the country's constitution. This guy hasn't shown the proper credentials to prove that he's a legitimate U.S. citizen; why is he still running around at our expense. He's number one enemy of the American people, along with the rest that know who he is. They should all be given permanent residence at Gitmo.
I cannot believe so many people had the heards stuck in the sand, not LISTENING to what this Obama was saying when he was running for office. Now that the honeymoon is over, people are asking themselves, "What have we done?" Good write up.
fantastic. This is very important reading for this country. It is absolutley insane what Obama has done & is doing. Keep up the exposes.
Fantastic write-up. It's amazing that Van Jones has this position. The "czar" situation is out of control, and it's only because our nation is in such a mess that folks are not paying much attention to it, yet. Even a few in the administration are starting to question where Obama is going with these appointments.
Hi Rebecca, I did not see this article until I just now posted my own on three of Pres. Obama's questionable appointees including Jones. After I posted, your link came up as related. This is a great report, and I must say you have bravely stepped out to do it being so new at AC!
