Meg Whitman Rocking California's Earthquake Country

Jerry Brown: Mammograms Are Wasted Expense
Apparently, Jerry Brown doesn't believe in science either, or perhaps it's that he's fronting for Barack Obama. Both men believe that women should cut back on the mammograms, each for a different reason.
Obama's health care reform bill requires some cutbacks of traditional services with a view to applying less medical care more broadly. This sort of ignores the medical fact that mammograms have saved women's lives for the past thirty years. Obama seems to believe that medical facilities could eliminate mammograms for women in their 40s, and then there would be all the more money left for.... Well, we don't exactly know. Which is the trouble with all Obama programs--no one, including Obama, seems to know.
Jerry Brown, on the other hand, implied on a 1995 television show that mammograms were bad medicine which could only save 3 lives of every 10,000 women. He told a "Firing Line" interviewer that "..., there's no statistical evidence that mammograms help anyone at any age. " That article appeared in Politico and was written by Maggie Haberstam.
What About Calling Her a Whore?
Haberstam also mentioned the "whore" comment in the article. Apparently, Brown and his aides were trying to figure out a way to slow down Whitman's rising popularity. The "whore" strategy seems to be the favored fall back position of weak men in trouble with voters.
"What about calling her a whore?" says the Brown aide.
Of course, it was a huge mistake to blatantly reveal desperation of Brown's campaign in such an obvious misogynistic way. The Jerry Brown aide would have better emulated the slightly more refined but deprecating view of a female competitor conjured by Barack Obama. Obama famously disparaged Sarah Palin by hitting on a verbal double entendre which played into the darkest insecurities of male political oppression.
"You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," said the President.
You can't argue with a lawyer about the double meaning of a word but Obama's supporters in the media were quick to sanitize the remark. Then Senator Obama treated opponent Hillary Clinton more gingerly in the primary but there were similar but more subtle invectives directed against her-patronizing rather than insulting.
Republican Women Suddenly Fashionable
The Whitman campaign doesn't downplay the significance of the women's vote in California, and the "whore" remark may have helped the Meg Whitman campaign. With so many Republican women challenging the establishment in fresh new ways, Democrats seem sometimes at a loss for better words than the ones they are using to describe opponents. Democrats seem to believe that the "extreme" word works on the one end of the spectrum against candidates like Sharron Angle and Christine O'Donnell but by now everyone's got a grip on the hidden agenda. On the other hand, no one's likely to believe that Whitman is anything but a very smart Republican moderate with a quick and confident grasp of the crackling high energy (and broke) political climate in California.
Huffington Post Writer Amy Siskind Pitches Whitman
If you think I'm fooling, perhaps you might like to read Amy Siskind's devastating article in the Huffington Post. The article is titled: "Why Hillary's Army Should Rally Around Meg Whitman." There, now you've got it-- straight from the heart and unadulterated.

Post a CommentGood job, you WHORE!
Oh, you said it well! Personally, I always thought the lipstick/pig remark sounded a little catty to come from a guy...sounds more like he borrowed it from the missus, or a woman staffer, at least.
Beautiful job covering this, Anthony.
Wow, who would have ever thought it could happen! Cheers :)
Great job on this Anthony, thanks.
