Mega Millions $370M Jackpot Has Two Winning Tickets

Millions of people live paycheck to paycheck every week for their entire lives. But for at least two people Wednesday that will no longer be the way they live. The reason for this is that these two people both held winning lottery tickets.

The Ohio Lottery spokeswoman Mardele Cohen said Wednesday that the winning tickets for the record $370 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot were purchased in New Jersey and Georgia, and that there could be others in California.

California Lottery spokesman Rob McAndrews said that they would likely take until at least midmorning to get the results for California. The results for California were slowed by the high volume of sales.

New Jersey Lottery officials had traced the one winning ticket to Cape May County, on the state's southern tip, spokesman Dominick DeMarco said. According to DeMarco they are still trying to pinpoint the store. Georgia's lottery officials were trying to determine where in their state the other winning ticket was purchased.

Tuesday night's drawing was moved to New York's Time Square instead of holding it at the usual home in Atlanta. The 12 states involved had agreed to holding it in ABC's television studio after brisk sales had pushed what had been an estimated $355 million jackpot estimate to $370 million.

The temperature was just 16 degrees, but that did not stop the handful of hopeful people who showed up in Times Square to watch the drawing.

Millions of people lined up at lottery agents in the 12 states to buy tickets Tuesday. New Yorkers bought more than 1 million tickets an hour, according to the state's lottery director, Robert McLaughlin. Virginia sold about 8,550 tickets per minute.

Some lottery hopefuls in Ohio were doomed before they ever got started. Ohio's lottery ticket system went down statewide at bout 10:20 p.m., 25 minutes before the lottery deadline, Cohen said. The cause of this hadn't yet been determined.

"For those people who wanted to make a wage and didn't get a chance, we're very, very sorry," Cohen states.

According to the Mega Millions website the final results are not yet available. This is because of the unprecedented number of Mega Millions tickets purchased. The website states that they will post the final results on there as soon as possible.

Mega Millions tickets are sold in California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington state.

The winning numbers were: 16-22-29-39-42, with the Mega Ball 20.

The odds of hitting them all: about 1 in 176 million.

imagine all that money. doing no good in your life. The only difference of a rich person and a poor person is that the rich will die with a gold coffin.

One of the winners have come forward. He was a truck driver and the ending jackpot was for $390m. That report was rejected by AC when I wrote it. Oh well

I was a hopeful! I wonder if either of the winners have come forward yet? That is an amazing amount of money.
