Mega Millions States on Edge Before $333M Drawing

Robert Dougherty
Mega Millions states are on the edge of their seats tonight, as Mega Millions states are filled with Mega Millions players out for a near-record jackpot. Mega Millions states are scarce, as the game is only held in 12 states. But those 12 Mega Millions states are at the center of the lottery world tonight, as those players can win one of the biggest jackpots of all time. Tonight, the Mega Millions states hope to be host to a $333 million jackpot, after tonight's latest Mega Millions drawing.

For several weeks, the 12 Mega Millions states have not had one player hit all five numbers, as well as the Mega Ball. Tonight is the latest, and most profitable, chance yet to break that drought, as the Mega Millions jackpot gets pushed closer to all-time record status,

After Tuesday night's failed drawing, the jackpot was $325 million. But each of the Mega Millions states have had such a high demand for tickets, that the jackpot is up to $333 million heading into tonight, and could go higher before the actual drawing. If no one hits every number tonight, the current jackpot could go up to an all-time record heading into next week.

Mega Millions states aren't as numerous as Powerball, which is played in 30 states and often has the more noteworthy jackpots. But after Powerball finally paid out a $259 million grand prize last week, the Mega Millions states have become even more engulfed in lottery fever.

For all the hype over this jackpot, only players in New Jersey, New York, Texas, Washington, Maryland, Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Virginia, California, Michigan and Massachusetts can compete for it. Any other really committed jackpot seekers would have to drive to the nearest Mega Millions state and hope to get lucky.

If the hysteria in the Mega Millions states is high tonight, it will become epic if no one wins the grand prize. In that case, there is a fair shot that the jackpot on Tuesday night could top the biggest in lottery history - held by Mega Millions in March 2007. Perhaps it might even become the first ever lottery jackpot in North America to top 400 million.

That record won't be set if someone actually wins big tonight, for the first time in about two months. The dozen Mega Millions states will be glued to their TV sets at 11 p.m. EST to find out.
