Like Meghan McCain, I consider myself a "liberal" conservative. Although that sounds like an oxymoron, it really isn't. I accept the differing political views of others, but my personal belief system aligns itself more with the Republican Party than it does with the more "liberal" Democratic Party (although I am a Clinton fan and would have voted for Hillary had she been on the ballot...).
The Meghan McCain breast controversy has me wondering if it is really worth it as a young woman to consider myself a "conservative." After all, it appears if I wear anything that shows much more than a collar bone, my Party leaders will think I am a floozy.
I don't think the Meghan McCain breast controversy or the Meghan McCain Twitter photo were inappropriate. I think Meghan McCain should have thought for a moment before posting the picture - not because the picture was bad, but because she of all people should know how Republicans are.
When Michelle Obama wore a pair of shorts, a short-lived controversy ensued. However, the majority of people polled by the Huffington Post agreed that Michelle Obama was within her rights to show some skin and bare her legs.
So, the Democratic First Lady can wear shorts above her knee, but Meghan McCain - the 24 year old daughter of a Senator - can't wear a tank top? Please. Give me a break.
The Meghan McCain's breasts and their limited appearance in Meghan McCain's Twitter picture show me just how much the world has not evolved. If a woman acts outside of certain guidelines she is a "slut" or another derogatory word. If a man acts outside the boundaries set by society, he's "cutting edge" an "entrepreneur" or just plain "sexy".
Poor Meghan McCain has to live another few days with people speculating about her breasts. Meghan McCain's breasts are no different than the millions of other breasts in the world that are flaunted on Twitter pictures. It just so happens that Meghan McCain's breasts are controversial because they are attached to a conservative and the world thinks that because she's a Senator's daughter she should live in a box.
Unfortunately, Meghan McCain probably wishes she were in that box right now.
