Meghan McCain's Breasts: Twitter Photo Reveals She Has Two

A Glance at America's Unhealthy Breast Fixation Via Meghan McCain's Twitter Photo

Saul Relative
Meghan McCain has breasts. Who knew? Apparently there are a gazillion people who either did not know Meghan McCain had breasts, just wanted to see that Twitter photo of her in a low-cut tank top, knew she had them but was hiding them in a conservative cover-up, or were in denial she had breasts at all because she is a Republican and/or the daughter of Arizona Senator John McCain. In fact, "Meghan McCain breasts" is the No. 1 Google Trend topic for October 16, so there's plenty of people looking for them, whatever their reason. But most likely, the searchers are looking for that terribly scandalous (not) Twitter photo that Meghan McCain posted Wednesday evening at around 8 p.m. that simply put her mostly conservative followers into such tizzy that they tweeted her over 60,000 times within the space of a few hours.

And over 100,000 took a look at the Twitter photo in the next 16 hours to make certain that Meghan McCain had breasts.

It is not a difficult exercise to imagine Senator John McCain on his next trip to David Letterman's show being asked about the furor that his daughter's Twitter photo sparked within the ranks of the conservatives. It is just as easy to imagine the soft-spoken senator stoically saying, "I was fully unaware that my daughter had breasts and was equally unaware that she was going to make such a disclosure." After Dave got over a laughing fit, he might add, "Well, you know, truthfully, I'm just thankful she's reading..."

The trouble seemed to start because Meghan McCain, instead of buttoning up in high-collared flannel night gown, decided to take a photo of herself in her regular night clothes, which includes a tank top. The tank top looks like any other tank top, but the difference seems to be the prominence in the photo of Meghan McCain's most prominent assets -- her breasts. She told her followers that she was "getting old" and that she was going to enjoy a night in reading an Andy Warhol biography. But no one cared about that; they were too concerned with Meghan McCain's breasts. Instead of people being outraged that she would post a picture featuring a guy who became famous painting soup cans and splashing pastel colors over Marilyn and Elvis, they chose to hurl ad hominem insults at Meghan McCain and her Twitter photo, degrade her for her choice of attire, shame her for not knowing her place as a senator's daughter, and generally badmouth her lifestyle and question her morals.

All because she revealed she had breasts. And just the standard number, too. Nothing extra...

But the negative reaction to Meghan McCain's Twitter photo posting -- and the reaction to the reaction, not to mention commentary on the reaction and the reaction reaction -- has not only taken over the internet, it caused Meghan McCain to consider closing her Twitter account. She no doubt was especially miffed when bloggers and pundits and tweeters suggested that she posted the Twitter photo as a publicity stunt. And being called a 'slut' probably didn't help matters.

But there is something strangely unsettling in the fact that the most popular topic being discussed and searched on Google is Meghan McCain's breasts -- or to be more precise, the Twitter photo revealing Meghan McCain's breasts. That a young woman (she'll be 25 next week) cannot post a picture of herself in clothes that would not raise the eyebrows of anyone had she been Meghan McCain from Podunk, Kentucky, says only too much about the insecurity and immaturity felt by some of her followers. The fact that Meghan McCain's Twitter photo and her breasts have dominated Google searches for nearly two full days only illuminates the fact that many find the controversy more important than it merits. That she was "harassed" enough to capitulate and apologize to those she might have offended also says that the morally judgmental have far too much power.

Maybe the psychologists have been correct all along. Perhaps America does have an unhealthy breast fixation.

It was a simple photo of 24-year-old American woman. That woman happened to be the daughter of a famous senator.

Meghan McCain has breasts... Alert the media.

I've never understood the obsession with breasts. Sure, in the right outfit a good pair of knockers can add some titillating curves, but mammary glands are just too silly of an organ to take seriously. Now, the buttocks - there is a fascinating body part.

I think it's ridiculous, Jan, this constant harping about a photo that shows far less than "Dancing with the Stars". It shows way less than a bathing suit. What the hell is wrong with these people?

Meghan's picture isn't obscene, her father's politics are.

Saul, this title is priceless! You are really burning up the search engines with your coverage of...well...Meghan McCain's uncoverage (is that a word), according to some who think she showed too much. I see young women walking around in schools and other areas who show just as much.

Hey, Lori. I had a friend in high school we called C.C. Rider. C.C. stood for "chicken chest," because when a female would enter his environment, he would immediately suck in his gut and puff out his chest. We never told him why we called him that. His looks of puzzlement were priceless...
