Mel Gibson Caught on Tape Threatening to Burn Oksana Grigorieva's House and Telling Her She'll Be "Raped by Niggers"

He went into a serious male midlife crisis several years ago, breaking up his marriage and impregnating young Russian musician Oksana Grigoriev. That's pretty par for the course for a man in midlife crisis. Ditching the wife and family seem like a great idea to men running away from midlife. Casually creating a baby can also seem like a good idea. Shows the world an aging guy is still potent and fertile right?, and who cares about - you know - the actual child? (Mel - get a GRIP.)

But if reports on RadarOnline are to be believed, Mel Gibson has taken yet another step into ignominy and oblivion by threatening Grigroriev in base, violent, sexist and racist ways.

At some point the truth will emerge about Mel's odd affair and new-but-instantly broken family. At present though (July 2010) it's difficult to know exactly what has gone on between Gibson on the one hand and Grigoriev on the other.

One minute they caught were kissing passionately on a beach. The next, Gibson was ditching his wife of 27 years and announcing Oksana was pregnant. He paraded her around, looking proud and lovestruck. Then baby Lucia arrived and almost immediately the pair, Oksana alleges, split up and came to blows. Not only did Mel ditch Oksana in as perfunctory a way as he walked out on his wife but she alleged he was verbally and physically abusive into the bargain.

RadarOnline reported at the beginning of July 2010 that it had received tapes containing recordings of Mel Gibson in which he yelled, amongst other wild insults and threats, that Oksana was dressed in a way that would get her "raped by a pack of niggers."

"You're an embarrassment to me" Mel apparently tells her. "You look like a f***ing pig in heat and if you get raped by a pack of niggers it will be your fault."

Radar claims also to have heard Gibson threatening on tape to burn down Oksana's home, where she lives with his baby, Lucia, and her 13-year-old son, Alexander, by actor Timothy Dalton.

Whatever is happening to Mel Gibson he's seriously out of control if the RadarOnline reports are even halfway accurate. The tapes were immediately judged to have some credibility because Gibson's life has clearly been unstable for several years and he has form in the outburst arena, having ranted at the "f***ing jews" when he was arrested for drunk driving in 2006. He also casually insulted a female police officer as well as having a go at jews.

Mel's attorney spoke to RadarOnline.com after the tapes emerged only to say that he is no longer commenting on Gibson's behaviour and that the star's publicist is the only person working for him who will speak on his behalf.

It appears that the Braveheart and Mad Max star also referred repeatedly to ex-mistress Oksana on the tapes as a "whore" and worse. "How dare you act like such a bitch" he says at one point "when I have been so f***ing nice...I am going to come and burn the f***ing house down. But you'llblow me first."

These bizarre developments in an extra-marital affair which Gibson actively sought suggest the star is having a male midlife crisis and breakdown. Already in a bitter separation and furious court battle over future custody of little Lucia, he appears to be unravelling fast. As well as these bizarre tapes, the mess he has created in his once glittering life includes restraining orders filed by and against him and allegations by Oksana that he punched her in the face twice in a fit of rage, concussing her and knocking out two of her teeth.

At one point on the tapes Gibson shouts at Oksana "Look what you did to me... look what you are... look what every part of you is... f***ing fake... f***ing fake. You are the most synthetic person... who the f*** are you?"

These words are pretty revealing. If Gibson is indeed going through a severe midlife crisis one of the key aspects is profound confusion about identity. Another is a total lack of insight on the part of the sufferer about what they are going through. Projecting his own identity problems onto Oksana - largely because she happened to be there - fits midlife crisis behaviour very closely. How could Gibson not be feeling he is a fake? A "devout catholic" impregnating a mistress. A devout catholic ditching his wife and getting a divorce. A man threatening to kill the mother of his eighth child but claiming to be "nice."
Despite his severely muddled head, Mel Gibson knows very well on some level that his behaviour is appalling and he's dee--p in denial. Too deep at present to seek medical help.

Oksana Grigoriev meanwhile seems to be trying to protect herself. She says she taped Mel because he was making death threats and she wants evidence in the event she needs to put him on trial. A spokesperson for her said "She wanted to get evidence that he was dangerous and violent." He added the tapes are "the rantings of a mad man."

Oksana is 40 and Gibson's now 54. Like many other women - like Gibson's ex-wife Robyn for example - she's finding out what a nightmare it can be when your partner, lover, and father of your children enters male midlife crisis and spins wildly out of control.
