Mel Gibson & Oksana Grigorieva: The Battle Heats Up

Magnolia Miller
Is Mel Gibson going to crash and burn again? Let's hope not.

But, with all of the acrimony that is going on right now between Mel and his baby mama, Oksana Grigorieva, things are not looking good.

At first, the story seemed like a small blip on the radar screen: Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva break-up a couple of months ago. They have a child together. End of story. Sort of.

Over the past few days the story has gotten uglier with reports of restraining orders with both parties accusing one another of domestic violence and violating a custody arrangement which was hammered out when they first split. Now, Oksana is accusing Mel Gibson of "cruelty" and says that he's forcing her to "live on credit cards and borrowed money."

I wish that relationships that produce children weren't always reduced to economics. But, they always are and well, what is happening between Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson seems to be turning into a financial battle, rather than what is best for their child, little 7-month old, Luciana.

Say what you want about Mel Gibson (and there is plenty to say, I know), but the guy has always come off to me as a really good father. He clearly values family and children. His bigger issues seem to get in the way of carrying out those fatherly duties, which are clearly, his temper and his drinking - a really bad combination.

After Mel's DUI and anti-Semitic rant in 2006, he's had a long hard crawl back into the public eye. Most people have written Mel Gibson off as a drunken bigot. Maybe he is. But, he's also a brilliant film maker who has given us some of the best films in cinematic history. It's a shame that he struggles so much with personal demons. I think deep down, Mel's probably a pretty good guy with some pretty serious personal problems.

I sincerely hope for the well-being of his child, his reputation and his family with Robyn Moore that Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva can iron out their issues. But, as it stands right now, it's not looking so great.

I agree, Malina. Being able to take care of yourself is worth more than you can ever imagine, isn't it?

Such a shame. when my ex and I separated, I prepared myself for being able to take care of my child without beating down on the man who walked out. I had the attorney handle the rest. No need to place your dirty laundry out there for the world to see.
