Mela Power Laundry Detergent Product Review

Laura Brady
Mela Power laundry detergent is a natural, non-alkaline, concentrated laundry detergent. It's safe for your home, clothes, family and the environment. Because it is concentrated you will save money as well as using less plastic. It has a ph neutral formula and will not damage septic systems. It's an indispensable product in our home as I slowly lead our family into a safer, greener, chemical-free lifestyle.

Most laundry detergents today contain ingredients that are harmful to the environment and to people. Benzene, chloroform, chlorine, and surfactants are just a few chemicals used in laundry products today. Most of them also use strong fragrances to which many people have allergies or sensitivities. Mela Power is free of all chemicals. It's biodegradable and available in an unscented version. It contains no fillers so you are buying a pure cleaning product without any bulk added to inflate the price. It doesn't damage your clothes like regular detergents can in time because it contains no alkali and phosphates, which can eat away at fabric and fade colors.

I average about one load of laundry a day. My 32 ounce container of Mela Power lasted for over a month. It cleans our clothes just as well as any mainstream detergent. I do occasionally miss the scents of my previous brand but I realize that they weren't natural and the chemicals and phosphates in the detergent could cause my family and the environment harm in the long term.

Mela Power can be used for more than washing clothes. You can use it as a stain remover by simply applying it directly to the stain. You can use it as a dryer sheet by spraying a splash on a washcloth and adding it to your dryer, or spraying a couple of pumps into your dryer drum. It also works in conjunction with another Melaleuca product called Sol-U-Mel, a disinfectant, to wash and disinfect stuffed animals and other household fabrics that are washable. You can also use it in conjunction with a couple of other products to machine clean your carpets. It's a lot less expensive than what they sell with the machines and you will have the benefit of a clean and healthy carpet with no chemical residue.

Mela Power is available in several ways: 32 oz for $6.29., 96 oz. for $14.99, and a Pantry 2 Pack-96 oz. for $27.88. It's available in all sizes in either Fresh Scent or Unscented. You can purchase Mela Power by clicking on the link included.

I highly recommend Mela Power. It's a superior laundry detergent that is both economical and environmentally sound. Every small step that we can take towards using healthy and natural products benefits not only ourselves and our families but the environment as well.

Most of the Melalueca products are not organic. They use many of the same cleaning surfactants that the big name manufacturers use. I know this because I worked in one of the Mela-Factories and occasionally helped the formulation folks. They add a few drops of melaleuca oil to the product, but not enough to affect the outcome. It is highly concentrated, so you can get many washloads out of the bottle, but not enough to justify it's exhorbitant price. You are better off buying something off the shelf.

We had been using Mela Power for several years & they just came out w/ the concentrated liquid this year. BEWARE- We cut down our amount but apparantly not enough as I began to get hives on my face, ears ringing, itchy skin etc. It took a trip to allergist, naturopath, and regular MD who all inquired if I'd changed laundry detergent brands. I said "no" thinking we hadn't changed. After $$ & trying to think of everything that would cause this reaction I finally figured out it was this "newer" version. 1 day after washing literally almost everything in my house I feel totally better- so please watch the amount you are using. I even changed to ALL free & clear & now rinse everything twice.

i used to get the hives whenever my clothes were washed with a different laundry detergent or fabric softener but with Mela Power I am totaly fine

I had the same reaction as Terri did. I washed my clothes, dried them and as soon as I wore them, my entire body broke out in itchy hives. They were only where my clothes were touching my skin, so I figured that it was the laundry detergent. The swelling went down in a day, but I was miserable. A few days later, I accidentally wore a shirt I had previously washed with Mela Power and didn't re-wash, and it happened all over again. It was the most awful experience! I'm now on prescription steroids because Benadryl didn't do a thing to reduce the reaction I was getting!

people have got to stop lying what the product is is environmentally safe eco friendly. It is biodegradeable no phosohates no falmadehyde (I can't spell) non toxic. There are chemicals in the detergent and there are a lot of natural ingredient like the mela oil. It is effective it is not chemical free. what they have done is taken out the worst chemicals that are found in traditonal detergent and are tied to negative health effects. Mela is not a completely green product it is somewhere in the middle. what i have seen most is people complaining about the deceptive marketing by individual groups or people. The products themselves are good and they are safer than the stuff in the supermarket. I believe you will have a positive effect from them if you suffer from asthma allergies and such ailments.

I would like to know if melalueca did their own product review or was this a third party review. Is this product 100% organic, or is it is just nontoxic?

To Terri , with the sensitive skin.... I too have/had a severe case of eczema my entire life , and now that I'm using the Mela-Power "scent free" , I don't itch all over anymore, and I mean itch all over. So send that product back and ask for the scent free Mela-power. As for the other products with this company,if you have sensitive skin like me, try the products that are scent free. And yes, you can use the mela-power in cold water, I've tried it and it works wonderful. I use all of their cleaning products and I haven't been disappointed yet.

So not pricey at all. Its incredibly concentrated and you only use 1 ounce per load, so a 32 ounce bottle actually gives you 32 loads of laundry. Tide is equal to about 31 cents per use to Melapower is 16 cents per use. There are no harsh abrasive's in it and no fillers like other products. There is no sodium carbonate which is a filler that can build up on clothes. Its available in scent-free if you are sensitive to fragrances. It won't harm septic systems. WWW.saferforyourhome.com. You should try it.
