Highlights from Melissa Leo's win for Best Supporting Actress.
The utter look and exclamation of shock portrayed by Leo was concerning. The alarm bells were confirmed when in a few seconds the F word popped right out of her mouth. She was commenting on how it had "looked so [f-bomb] easier" than it actually was. Big Oops!
Luckily no one was sleeping at the wheel in the audio room and the sound was cut when she dropped the bomb. However, the camera lens caught the mouthed word all too perfectly, leaving no room to mistake exactly what word was bleeped.
Leo was not finished either; as she was turning away from the microphone to leave she almost knocked over her presenter, a fragile Kirk Douglas. Upon apologizing to him while walking away together, she was holding his cane. Yikes! Luckily he had a pretty good hold on her, so as long as she didn't fall, he'd make it.
Leo had quite the mini fiasco of an acceptance speech.
There was a lot of Internet chatter before the Academy Awards were broadcast that Leo's ads would take some votes away from her. Where studios typically pay for these ads to help promote before the Oscars, Leo paid for hers. Big deal: The check came from her instead of the studio, I say. Buzz was hinting that because the ads were glamorous shots that they were not true to the pretty rough characters she is known to portray. Once again I have to say, isn't that what acting is about? We want to see a character in a movie, not the actress being herself! Who's to say she doesn't love being glamorous? Either way, she won, so it looks like it didn't stop her from winning.
Added Sparkle:
Leo was definitely glamorous on the red carpet in her Marc Bouwer dress, even though the dress was a bit too reminiscent of a stiff Elvis costume for me.
FYI...all my predictions for the winners in the top categories came true. Yeah me!
