Mellow Jello Shots to Liven Up Your Party

Remember to Party Within Limits

Jay Braun
My, does this topic bring back memories. These were all over when I was in college. Some people would even keep some of these made up in the dorm in case of a party coming their way. I usually made these for guests at parties than myself as I was into beer or drank bourbon neat. Here are some of the ways I like to make Jell-O shots.

Things you will need

1. One Jell-O ( depending on the amount of guests you may need more packages)

2. Small disposable shot glasses ( these can be really hard to find so bathroom cups work)

3. Alcohol ( vodka, peach schnapps, rum are favorites of mine)

4. Some garnishments depending on what you are making like fruit or orange juice

The first thing you want to do is bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a pot. Next you want to add the Jell-O mix to the boiling water and let it dissolve. Once the water dissolves you will turn off the heat. Now is when you can get creative. This is when you add the alcohol and other ingredients to the mixture. Depending on the type of Jell-O shots you make will determine what ingredients you put in. You will always want to put some cold water in too. In the case of vodka you will use 10 ounces of vodka and six ounces of water. The stronger the alcohol the more water typically used. I advise always using at least six ounces and no more than twelve per packet.

Skrewdriver Power Jell-O Shot

In this case you will take orange Jell-O and Vodka ( brand is to preference I use absolute) with about 4 ounces of ice cold orange juice with as little pulp as possible ( Minute Maid works good). You mix the vodka, orange juice with the water once the Jell-O is dissolved. I use six ounces of water, but occasionally if it seems like it might take long to harden I will cut that to four ounces. Put them in Dixie cups or mini shot glasses and then let them harden in the fridge. I usually don't serve anything as garnishment on top of this as is really a very basic drink.

Tahiti Sweetie

For this you will use Tropical Punch Jell-O and Rum (I like Bacardi). You will use six ounces of water and put some fruit pieces in it along with ten ounces of Rum. You can either get canned fruit or chop some of your own. Usually I just use fruit cocktail and add a small can. I garnish these often with a little bit of décor like umbrellas and stuff like that you would see in the tropics.

Fuzzy Navel

This is pretty basic. You will use Orange Jell-O and ten ounces of peach Schnapps. In this case you can get away with about four ounces of water. You mix just like you did the other recipes. I don't really have much garnish for this one.

If you really want to make a nice drink you can use the Skrewdriver recipe, but instead of orange Jell-O and orange juice you use cherry Jell-O and add some fruit cocktail. You can top with a bit of whipped cream. Sometimes this drink has ended up in much larger cups than I would have liked.
