Ever since 1926 this theatre was part of the wave of movie palaces being built around the country for people to see movies in style before, during and after the Depression. During the late 1960s and early 1970s it was in the process of being demolished. Thankfully there were a number of prominent people who saw the vision as the historic gem it's now become for the city of Tampa. Here's some more information on how you can become a member of the Tampa Theatre.
Becoming a Member
There are several ways you can become a member of Tampa Theatre. The quickest way is by applying and purchasing your membership online. However, if you're not comfortable with that method you can print out the membership form (scroll to the bottom of the membership page) by mailing in a check or faxing it with your credit card information.
Various Memberships
On the website you will notice a number of memberships. We'll concentrate on the Introductory packages as they are geared toward individuals. The other ones that run in the hundreds and thousands of dollars are primarily for companies and corporations. For $50 you get $2 off all movies, free re-fills on popcorn, drinks and coffee, admission to their annual member's reception, subscription to their newsletter called NewsReel and an opportunity to purchase advance tickets to concert that are held at Tampa Theatre.
For an additional $50 you can join the Balcony Club that is geared for young professionals from ages 21-45. For that you get free admission to pre-film socials, free drink tickets and a t-shirt. This is a great way for networking. If a couple purchases a membership together you can save a considerable amount of money.
Being a Part of Something
You can already see the benefits of becoming a member of the Tampa Theatre with free re-fills, discounts on tickets, social events, newsletters and purchasing tickets in advance of concerts held at the theatre that usually sell-out. Depending on the type of membership you purchase it is a great way to network and socialize with other members during their receptions and socials. Best of all you are keeping the tradition alive of allowing first run indies, foreign and classic films to run throughout the year. By becoming a Tampa Theatre member you do belong to something big.
