Memoirs of the Crazy Paper Lady: Conclusion

They're in My Blood

Patricia Niehaus
In conclusion, I have had a pretty wild ride in my 5-year stint of delivering the newspaper. There have been ups and downs, but it's really not too bad of a job. If you've been trying to figure out how to make an extra income and the previous chapters haven't scared you away, then check out your local newspaper. There always seems to be a need for carriers.

Remember these few things to obtain good service from your carrier. Make sure they can find your house number. Cherish your pets by keeping them out of the road and out of the way of the carrier - we like to view them from afar. Tips are always helpful and be specific in how and where you need your paper delivered. Don't expect your carrier to do something you wouldn't be willing to do yourself.

If you decide to take on a newspaper route, especially if it's a rural area, please be mindful of all critters. They are everywhere. Even where you least expect them. Also, be careful and mindful of other vehicles. Someone's newspaper being exactly on target is not worth your own life. Do your best but take care of yourself, too.

Be nice to your carrier and they'll be nice to you. Remember that they're every day people just like you and they're just trying to make a living at a job that can sometimes be physically demanding. The newspapers don't come bagged and ready to be delivered. They must be put together, bagged and then delivered to you. We promise to do our best, too!

I've toyed with leaving the newspaper again, but as I said earlier, it's in my blood and I can't seem to get it out! I think they'll always be a part of me, in one way or another. And just remember, I can see you!
