Memoirs of a Freelance Author

Imogen Rayne AAB BSCOM
After my birth, I met my mom and grandparents for the first time on December 31, 1974. I quickly became the apple of my grandparent's eyes and their hearts. Luckily, I had friend to share my journey with, my twin brother Thomas. We set out on a brave adventure together, into this new world that we were learning so much about. My loving grandparents and my hardworking mom, helped to raise me and my brother, since she was working and she needed help. About five years later, my mom married my step dad and we instantly became Navy brats.

My little brother Jamie was born on August 25, 1979, which six days before my mom's birthday. Suddenly, we moved around a lot, so I struggled in school. Not to mention the many friends that I lost, due to my dad's military transfers. We lived as a family for about seven years, until the year I turned eleven. In 1985, my parents divorced and we moved to back to Jacksonville, Florida.

I was excited to be back in my grandparent's home, but I lost touch with my step-father. Soon, I became a troubled yet stupid teenager, who knew everything and I struggled in school after 1991. I dropped out of school and began working at sixteen, for anyone that would hire me. I worked and received crappy paychecks, while dreaming about writing. One day, I met a soldier, who I feel in love with and later married in 1994.

We moved to Fort Benning, Georgia, in order to pursue his career in the Army. But, after he finished his two year commitment, he decided to leave the Army. Then, we decided to come back to Jacksonville, with a surprise and she was born in July 1995. We struggled to pay bills and keep our relationship healthy, especially for our daughter's sake. But, lack of communication and financial problems, caused us to grow apart. We both made bad choices and we separated, just before the birth of our son, in November of 1998

I began writing poems, in order to ease my pain of my divorce and loneliness. Soon, I realized how much I enjoyed writing, and I began working on becoming a Freelance Author. However, I knew I needed to strengthen my own English and writing skills, in order to be a respected poet and author. then, I began focusing on my writing career and learning the skills I needed to succeed in my own writing goals.

It wasn't easy, but I developed the courage to return to high school and earn my high school diploma. However, I learn that I had cancer and my world stopped in an instance. Angry and confused, I decided to seek treatment and try to survive my journey. Honestly, I focused on my studies throughout my treatment, since it kept my mind busy and stable. Thankfully, I became a cancer survivor in April of 2003.

Even though, I became disabled and I remain in extreme pain daily. So, I focused on my writing career and I began writing poems. However, I wanted to write for children and teens, so I enrolled in the Institute of Children Literature. Suddenly, I began nurturing my passion for writing stories and articles. Before long, I started working on two novels and I graduated from my writing course and my high school.

However, I still needed to polish my basic grammar skills, correct punctuation, and learn how to write sentences correctly. Without these important skills, I would never become a published author. So, I enrolled in University of Phoenix's online Associate program. Currently, I will receive my Associate Degree (Arts of Business) in 2008. Then, I want eventually earn a Doctorate and teach other's online soon.

In November 2006, I married my fiancé and I am looking forward to having long life with him. Now, I am developing my skills and talent, lso, I enjoy writing something everyday and keeping up my studies. I also began writing songs and studying ancient history or the Bible era, which fascinates me. Therefore, I hope to achieve more accomplishments and earn my spot in the writing world!

This year, I was honored to become a freelancer author with Associated Content and Helium communities. Currently, my children are biggest fans and they are proud of my achievements. Unfortunately, I lost my grandfather and my best friend to prostrate and lung cancer in June. So, as my career grows, I would like to honor him with my life and my professional writings. As I look back, I am proud that have reached my goals, because now I am a published author!
