5. Working 8 to 4
This world is caught in a fierce storm that would tear us down, but with every morning, we rise. We digest the bold headlines and radio chatter, but still we drive. Red tape flaps in the breeze, but the door remains open. And we work 8 to 4, praying for the layoffs to remain at bay, and hoping the fat cats are done playing mice. The blame game continues, and the burden rests on heavy shoulders. But laughter chases the lunch break away, and stories of our lives are exchanged, telling of why we come here and do what we do. We have no choice but to see this storm through, and dedication and determination are the heartbeats fighting to remain strong. Love is the reason to rise and shine with each and every trial because at the end of the day, it is the ride home that meets us, guides us back to those, who depend on the salaries that we make.
4. Changing The World One Lesson At A Time
A shrill bell rings. The students take their seats. Roll call is given, guaranteeing attendance, and attention rests on bookshelves filled with knowledge, knowledge of what was, what is, and what will be. Posters decorate the walls, daring to dream, and young dreams beg to be realized. Lessons are painted white across the blackboard, and groans are the homework to follow the coming nights. Now, all eyes face forward, glistening with anticipation, and their lives fall into gentle hands, hands to mold who they are to become. And the bell rings, releasing them out into the hall and seeking destiny, but they look back at the one, who guided them forward, the one, who changed their world.
3. Dark Blue Guardian Angels
We hope to never know the cries of injustice. We pray that the predators are found, making our streets safe again. We wish that innocence was not the red, red rose left beside a small grave with the tears of heaven thundering down. We want to leave our doors and windows open not have them broken in, leaving us vulnerable. We ask for peace when none is found, and a speed demon takes the wheel, putting our life in jeopardy. There is no trust, no honor, but then fear melts in the face of gold, shields to protect us from harm. A sea of dark blue is pouring out, ending our pain and suffering, and the angels rise up to take down the evil that refuses to die. Our streets will be safe again. The cries of injustice will be answered. No more will the red, red rose fall down with thorns cutting deep. We will find peace again, hope in their embrace, and as we dare to open our doors, they take flight, guiding us with their mighty wings.
2. The Fires of Bravery
It is our worst nightmare to find ourselves trapped with seconds to live. The walls are burning, engulfing pictures of family and friends, and dark tears linger against all that we held dear. We try to breathe. We break the windows, screaming for help, but only a few brave souls would rush in. The rest of the onlookers would remain outside, where they are safe, and watch on in horror and despair. They would pray for our rescue, but would their prayers be answered? As darkness caves in, surrounding us with debris, we are on the brink of death, and the world is gray. But then, the door is smashed in, and we are lifted up, carried to safety. Hungry flames lick at our skin, and the fire roars with rage. But they hold strong, fighting their way through, and defeating the beast, and we awake outside in the cold. But we are warm, surrounded by the fires of bravery for when all ran to safety away from the burning building, they came inside, risking all to save us.
1. Remember Our Heroes
The pages of history peel back, telling the tales of war, and remembering the heroes lost to time. Medals of bravery are the whispers of them, rising in the dedicated purple heart, and the gunfire salutes, vowing to never forget. They changed the world, and the world still calls to them. And they rise, and they answer. They fight for all that they believe. They fight for us. Now, the pages of eternity are open, and the stories of their lives are still being written. The pen is held in the hand of love, family and friends that keep them strong, and dedication is the ink forever flowing. And we salute them, our soldiers, men and women marching through the sands of time to keep this world safe and to keep us from harm, and on Memorial Day, we will rise and call to them two simple words, "Thank You."
