Memorable Memories of Passover

The Passover feast was first celebrated by the Israelites on the night they left bondage and slavery in Egypt. The Almighty God commanded them then to recognize the day for its great significance in their lives and always remember and celebrate it till the end of time. It is our responsibility to celebrate it yearly as Christians as we wait for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In the new testament, Jesus Christ also celebrated the Passover feast with His disciples just before He was betrayed and killed for our sins and it was called the last supper of our Lord. Its significance was that our sins had been forgiven and the son of God took it all.

I was only ten when I first knew the true meaning of Passover. All along, I had been wondering why it was so special to us till my elderly grand- mother explained it to me. I then looked forward to it with enthusiasm. I was not disappointed. From the look of things, it was going to be special. Every member from my family was talking about it.

The day was warm and the sun spread its wonderful bright rays around, crowning the birds that sang their sweet melodies in the brushes. It was a day to behold. My father woke early and took a few friends of his who helped him slaughter a ram which we were going to feast on. Mother busied herself in the kitchen cooking all varieties of food she could lay her hands on. My siblings and I were not left behind. We were all very jubilant, clearing the home and making it neat. We also arranged seats as we had been informed that we were to have some visitors.

At ten, everything was ready and the feast began. We sang songs of praise and worship, listened to our grandmother tell stories about such past feasts. After that we ate the Passover meal. The food was tasty and well cooked. We did enjoy it. My friends who had come to visit me were very happy and I wished we did not have to wait for a whole year before we did enjoy another feast as such. May The Almighty God be praised.

This was my very fast feast that I enjoyed and the memories can not go away. They keep reminding me of the days that I was young and agile.
