Memorable Moments: Sisterly Love!

As a Mother, memorable moments happen every day, from first steps, to eating non-jarred foods. To watch every single one of these moments is a blessing, and I wouldn't give it up for anything. However, I would definitely say that one of my proudest moments happened during Thanksgiving of 2008. Victoria (the youngest of my twins) started to get very ill, during our first day of vacation at my parent's house, two hours away from home. She hadn't had a bowel movement in days, and was getting very lethargic and whiny. Around six pm while giving her a warm bath trying to help her go, she started to shake uncontrollably with fever. We gave her some Tylenol to bring the fever down, but it didn't work.

My husband was out visiting his family, so I was desperately trying to reach him to get him to come home to take us to the ER. Her fever was at 104 degrees, and she was still shaking. Her eyelids were about half closed, and we didn't know what to do. It was Thanksgiving, so no doctors offices were open for us to call, and we were getting very terrified.

I started to pack a diaper bag that would keep us overnight at the hospital, using memory from giving birth to know what they would and wouldn't supply for us. I finally turned back to my daughter and her twin sister, had gone over to her (Victoria was laying on the couch holding her puppy) and was holding her hand and rubbing her back.

Never in their lives had I seen her do anything like that. Every now and then, one would lay her head on the other's shoulder and then grin and run off, but nothing more than just playing. It was like Elizabeth just knew that something was wrong, and she wanted to do what she could to try to make her sister feel better.

It is to this day one of the sweetest moments I have ever experienced as a parent, to see my children show such love to each other.

Victoria turned out to be fine, after about four hours of tests, including a spinal tap, she ended up having a minor case of bronchitis. (Please don't ask how that came to be the final diagnosis. We showed up at the ER during a holiday and a shift change). We gave her a suppository to help her bowels, and she was fine for the rest of the vacation!

To this day, whenever anyone cries or is feeling sick, they rub backs and hold hands. It was like that moment, when Victoria was so ill, it spurred them to do something so angelic. It breaks my heart with love!
