Memorable Movie Quotes

Inspirational and Motivational (part 1)

Many remember fun sayings that don't have much meaning. Such as the famous, "I'll be back" from Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator. Quotes that are memorable to me are ones that strike a chord. Ones that have enough impact, forcing me to view and perhaps change my feelings and perspectives. Here are my top memorable quotes from movies:

"What we do in life, echoes in eternity."by Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator.
Gladiator, my favorite all-time movie, has a lot of brilliant and touching dialogue. This concise declaration is my favorite. It's a poetic way of expressing that the things we do in life do matter. What we do in our lives will have an effect on tomorrow and beyond. Who and what we affect, the amount of them, and the magnitude of our effect is up to us. This quote reminds me that we all have the potential to make a great impact with the little and extensive actions we make.

"Ultimately, we're all dead men. Sadly, we cannot choose how, but what we can decide is how we meet that end, in order that we are remembered as men." by Oliver Reed as Proximo in Gladiator.
Another great excerpt pertaining to the actions we take. How we die is irrelevant. It is something we can't choose. But, everyday we have a choice in how we live (well, with certain limitations). But, we do have the choice to act in given situations. Some of us have more freedom than others. There are those restricted by governments run by dictatorship and communism; our intentions are restricted by laws; many are restricted by religion; many of us are restricted by our fears and our own beliefs. Many times we choose to "crawl" through life, succumbing to our own fears and beliefs. We're reluctant to stand up with our heads high and face any resistance; to go against the odds. Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and Bill Gates are some examples of great individuals who went against the odds, and will always be remembered for the impact they made on society.

"You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person I'll guarantee you'll win."byRobin Williams as Hunter Patch Adams in Patch Adams.
It's almost common knowledge that treating diseases aren't always guaranteed. You may succeed. You may not. It may be gone for good. It may not. And if treating the disease is unsuccessful, you treat the symptoms. The true passion in medicine is treating the patient. And those in the medical profession aren't technically supposed to get emotionally attached to patients? Attempt to cure the disease- yes. But ultimately, I think patients should we educated on prevention and coping. Consider children with cancer. With something so tough to fight, they learn the great gift of life- to love, to give, and happiness. I'd rather die happy than frustrated in the fight.

"There's no place like home." by Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale on The Wizard of Oz
What more needs to be said. Home is the place you can always go back to. A place that will always be a part of who you are. Where you're most comfortable. No matter how long ago I "flew the coop," I still go back to my parents' acting like I still live there. Plus, I have the honor of calling Hawaii my home. I've traveled to many places. I'm sure there's still places I haven't seen that can be more beautiful. The environment, the people, the food, the scenery, the beaches, altogether. There's no place like it!

Look out for my second submission of movie quotes, and what they mean to me.
