Memorial Day, 4th of July Party Songs for Your Playlist

Holiday Celebratory Patriotic Music

Robin Vinci
Are you having a Memorial Day or 4th of July party and are unsure what music you should add to your play list? You will want some traditional holiday music, but since it is summer you must add some awesome summer classics that fit the holiday.

Start off with a pure memorial celebration song like The Battle Hymn of the Republic by Julia Ward Howe. She was an activist and a poet, but is best known for her patriotic music.

Next go with Hank Fellows and The Spirit of America. This is a newer song made in the wake of 911. Stick with Fellows and next put in One Heart One Voice. It's a great patriotic song with a modern flair.

Sticking to that theme next add Toby Keith's American Soldier. This was made in 2003 and everyone will enjoy it. I'm willing to bet not everyone at the party has heard this moving song.

Some Gave All is definitely a Memorial Day Classic. It is by Billy Ray Cyrus and came out in 1992.

Trace Adkins song Arlington is another song destined to be a Memorial Day classic. Made in 2005 it is about the death of our soldiers.

About now is time to liven up the party a bit with upbeat music. We all love the patriotic music, but we don't want to make the occasion too somber. It's a party, right?

Try Anchor's Away. It's a fun song that is definitely fun and makes people smile.

James Brown' Living in America is a great way to get people singing. It makes everyone feel proud and what better day than Memorial Day to be proud of Living in America.

Born in the U.S.A by Bruce Springsteen is a must have for Memorial Day or the 4th of July. This is an upbeat summer classic.

I'm going to make a few small changes away from the typical patriotic music about here to add some summer life to the party while keeping with the basic theme.

I like Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus. It's not necessarily patriotic, but still works. It will get the younger crowds attention and maybe get a few people dancing.

How about MC Hammer with No Stopping Us? Always a fun song and it works with the theme.

The Top Gun Anthem is a great instrumental by Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens. Stick to the movie soundtrack and play Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins. There are several other songs from this movie you may want to add as well so check out the entire soundtrack.

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy by the Andrew Sisters is great if you have an older crowd and sticks to the theme. You need to mix music especially if you have a variety of age groups.

Tom Petty's American Girl is a great addition to your playlist. It's an oldie, but a goodie. It is however a bit slower than the music you have been playing. Everyone seems to like Neil Diamond's Coming to America. It will once again get the crowd singing.

I love the song R.O.C.K. in the USA by John Cougar Mellencamp. I think everyone will enjoy this song regardless of their age.

You can then add one or two summer songs such as Down by the Boardwalk by the Drifters, Summertime by the Jamiesand The Boys Are Back in Town by Thin Lizzyhere or more often if you feel the crowd will enjoy them. I always stick in a summer classic about every three songs.

Now, you probably want to end the party songlist with some classics.

Try a few classics like Yankee Doodle Dandy, You're A Grand Ole Flag and America the Beautiful. Maybe even the Star Spangled Banner.
Most of us sang those for as long as we can remember and they always make us feel patriotic.

Don't hesitate to end it with Call to Quarters or some other type of bugle music. It adds a great finishing touch.

Now you've got the ultimate CD for your Memorial Day or 4th of July party. So be sure to enjoy it all.
