Memorial Day Cookout: Tips to Save You Money

Tennie Smith
Memorial Day is almost here, and the weather is getting warmer every day. Soon you will be running out to get food and everything you will need for your Memorial Day cookout. But the price of everything has gone up, and money is tighter than ever. The last thing you want to think about is will we have enough money this year to feed all our family and friends.

As we all know its getting harder and harder to be able to splurge for that whole buffet of food we have every year for Memorial Day. Well here's some tips to save money and still have a great Memorial Day cookout.

Buy your propane or charcoal for your grill the week before. The price will jump considerably higher the week of Memorial Day Weekend. You can also buy your grilling meats early and freeze them till the day before the party. Canned goods are a good thing to buy early. Ice for your coolers will also jump in price that weekend so buy early if you have the room to store it in your freezer. Price match anything you buy. Many stores will do price matching now. Wal-Mart is probably the most well known store for price matching. Look at all your grocery ads and even online. You can print out the ad online and take it into your grocery store for the price match. Make sure you're getting the cheapest price for anything you spend on your cookout. If you are having a large crowd, buy things in bulk. Paper plates, paper towels and plastic ware are the best things to buy in bulk and will save you a lot of money.

Get your family and friends to help out. If someone you invite wants to bring something, tell them exactly what you need them to bring. They will feel better that they are helping out and you will feel better that you don't end up with fifteen dessert dishes and no side dishes to go with your meal. If you are looking for even more help in the money situation, ask everyone to bring their own drinks. Every little bit will help and the people you invite will be so relieved the party isn't at their house they will be happy to help out any way you need it.

With these tips and a little thought you can have a great Memorial Day cookout and not have to worry about not being able to pay the bills this month. So get your lists started, invite all your friends and family, save money and have a great Memorial Day cookout.
