For Memorial Day, it is a day where we remember the men and women who have served or serving in our military. It also shows us that summer is right around the corner.

Here is a local list of Memorial Day Events:

The Veterans Ceremony will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 2900 Sheridan Road, Saint Louis, Missouri 63125. This ceremony has been unlike any I have ever seen and if you have the chance go see it. Local Boy Scouts place flags on all of the headstones and I have to say it is truly impressing and if I was or had been military I would feel truly honored. Call 314-845-8320 for more information.

The Gypsy Caravan will take place at University of Missouri Saint Louis (UMSL) One University Blvd. Saint Louis, Missouri 63121. It will take place on Memorial Day rain or shine from 7am-5pm. There is a fee to get in; from 9am-5pm $5 and for early birds 7am-9am but children under 12 are always free. This will always be one of these really impressive things that you go to because there are hundreds of vendors (this year they have almost 400 vendors). There are a lot of cool things to see and you will be entertained for a good while. If you have any questions call 314-286-4452.

The Compton Heights Concert Band Memorial Day Concert will take place at Tower Grove Park will begin around three pm and will be doing Sunday Serenades and Musical Mondays. This is an interesting group by far. It was started in 1976 by a man by the name of Harry Swanger (seems fitting really). For a year the band had its own show on KMOV-TV (which is a CBS affiliate) called "Sunrise Serenades". If you have a chance to go you will not regret it.

The Alton Parade is located at College Ave. and Washington Ave. Alton, Illinois. Even though this parade is in Illinois it is only about twenty miles from Saint Louis it is rather close and well worth the travel to go see. This is one of the oldest consecutive running parades in the United States. Honor those men and women who served or are serving our country. Make sure to bring your lawn chairs so you will not have to stand. People usually just sit on the side of the street with the chairs or just stand.
