The weather is typically gorgeous around Memorial Day, and the craziness of the Kentucky Derby has passed. By the way, locals pronounce our city "Loo-ah-vul." WonderFest 2009

If you love horror films, science fiction or comic books, this might be the place for you! Every summer, WonderFest comes to Louisville, Kentucky, featuring toys, models, and special guests galore. This year's Wonderfest takes place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, formerly the Executive West, located within a mile of the airport at 830 Phillips Lane, Louisville, Kentucky, 40209. Wonderfest takes place on May 16-17, 2009. Hours are 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. both days. Adult admission is $20.00 for one day, and $28.00 for a two-day pass. Walk on the Waterfront 2009

If you are in the mood to enjoy some of the beautiful Louisville weather over Memorial Day, take part in this event. Mayor Jerry Abramson leads this two-mile hike through downtown Louisville, including the gorgeous Waterfront Park. The hike includes views of the Ohio River. Snacks will be available. Local area mascots will also be in attendance. Participants get a free t-shirt! The Walk on the Waterfront takes place on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., and starts at 400 E. Gray Street.

Abbey Road on the River

Fans of the Beatles flock annually to this Memorial Day event, billed as the world's largest Beatles tribute show. This year, more than 70 bands are scheduled to take part. Tens of thousands of fans typically enjoy the concerts. The concerts take place on the Belvedere in downtown Louisville on the Ohio River, as well as the Galt House Hotel, which is located at 4th and Main Street. The event starts on Thursday, May 21, and ends on Monday, May 25, 2009. The shows start every day at noon and continue until midnight. Kentucky Reggae Festival

Keeping with the musical theme, the Kentucky Reggae Festival is held every Memorial Day in Louisville, Kentucky. As you might guess, the event includes live reggae music, various venders and lots of Jamaican food. Parking is free. The event takes place on May 23-24, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each day. The Kentucky Reggae Festival is located at 3005 River Road at the intersection of Zorn Avenue, just two or three miles from downtown Louisville.

Mayor's Healthy Hometown Subway Hike & Bike

After days of listening to music and checking out toys and models, you will probably need some exercise. The Mayor's Hike & Bike takes place on May 25, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. on the Great Lawn in Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. This is a free event! You can decide to hike or bike with family and friends in various different divisions including different ages and skill levels. Free t-shirts are provided to participants.
