Memorial Day Events in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City Life

Rosa Hayes
Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and also a day that many families decide to take part in events throughout Oklahoma City. Memorial Day events in Oklahoma City are often started out with a moment of silence for the gratitude that we each feel for those who have served our country and for those who have died defending our honor. As you take part in the Memorial Day events in Oklahoma City please remember what each event stands for and why there is such a day as Memorial Day.

These Memorial Day events that I have included in this article are especially set for the entire family so you can take your children with you.

45th Infantry Division Museum

Some of the main highlights for this Memorial Day event in Oklahoma City includes a helicopter flyover, massing of the colors, patriotic music, and distinguished guest speakers. This event is a tribute to the veterans of Oklahoma and our nation. Cost to visit the 45th Infantry Division Museum is free of charge. The location of the museum is at 2145 NE 36th Street in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73111. The Memorial Day event will be held at 10 am on Memorial Day. The Memorial Day service is one out of two events that the 45th Infantry Museum holds for the public.

19th Annual Chuck Wagon Gathering and Children's Cowboy Festival

You can also expect stage entertainment such as the Old West Medicine Show and activities such as a stagecoach and covered wagon rides. This event has been known to attract over 10,000 people. The outdoor festival starts at 10am and ends at 4pm. The Chuck Wagon Gathering and Children's Cowboy Festival is located within the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and is located at 1700 NE 63rd Street in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The museum hours are from 9am to 5pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $8.50 for seniors, $8.50 for students with valid ID, $4.50 for children 6-12, and free for children who are 5 and under.

A New Leash on Life

If you are a dog lover then you might want to check this Memorial Day event out. A New Leash on Life helps to train assistance dogs, therapy dogs, and shelter dogs for those who need them. This Memorial Day event is to help fund their cause and to get others more involved. The Memorial Day event is held on May 25th, 2009 for an 8K human race that starts at 8amm and a 3K dog jog that starts at 9am. There is an online registration form and more information about the reasoning behind the dog jog. Among those who will be attending the dog jog is Greg Burns. The cost is $20 per person with t-shirt and there is no cost for dogs. Each person can bring as many dogs as they would like for the jog. The Memorial Day dog jog is located at the Wiley Post Park River Trails SW 17th and Robinson in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Memorial Day is a time to honor those who have fought so hard for our freedom and for those who are still serving our country. Memorial Day often brings about parades and other events that center around this holiday. If you know of any other Memorial Day events in Oklahoma City, please feel free to add these in the comment section.

The Dog Jog is a super fun event for everyone. We have lots of great food donated from Panera, Krispy Kreme, and Starbucks, and lots of great prizes. And all proceeds go for a great cause! Hope to see you there.
