On Monday May 31st Americans across the U.S. and abroad will be honoring our fallen soldiers. Some have bar-b-ques while others go to grave sites. However there are many non-traditional ways to celebrate throughout the Memorial Day weekend which I've listed below.

"The River City Star Riverboat" is located at 151 Freedom Park Road in Omaha and can be reached at 402-342-7872. They will be offering half priced cruises on May 29th; admission for adults $6.00, seniors over 55 $5.00, and children under 12 $4.00. Cruise times are 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Reservations aren't required for this special event only arrive 15-30 minutes prior to departure. To learn more about "The River City Star Riverboat" log on to www.rivercitystar.com.

From May 29th through May 31st "The Henry Doorly Zoo" located in Omaha will have live music, fun activities for the kids, and a new exhibit called "Expedition Madagascar" will be open. Special activities are free of charge with regular zoo admission or for Omaha's Zoo members. Zoo hours are 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. For more information call 402-733-8400 or visit them on line at www.omahazoo.org.

On May 29th the "Papio Bay Aquatic Park" will be open at 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Admission for this fun water park is $5.25 for adults, children ages 3 to 16 and seniors over 55 will be charged $4.25; children 2 and under are free. "Papio Bay Aquatic Park" is located at 815 Halleck Street in Papillion and can be reached at 402-597-2055. To learn more about the water park log on to www.papillion.org.

"Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery" is located at 2300 South 78th Street in Omaha and can be reached at 402-397-3392. This cemetery is one of Omaha's best and beautifully maintained. Their Memorial program is held on May 31st in section D; near the flag pole. For additional information or to get directions log on to www.evergreencemetaryomaha.com.

If you would rather celebrate Memorial Day with music there are many concerts taking place throughout the Memorial Day Weekend. "Lemon Fresh Day" will perform at "La Vista Days" on May 29th at 8:30 pm. For location information call 402-331-3455 or log on to www.cityoflavista.org. Gretna, Nebraska's very own "Paradigm Shift" will be performing on May 29th at "The Slowdown" located in Omaha at 729 North 14th Street. Show starts at 8:00 pm and there is a cover charge of $5.00.

No matter how Memorial Day is celebrated our fallen soldiers should be at the forefront of our minds and forever in our hearts. They served our country and should be remembered not only on Memorial Day but throughout the year.
