Memorial Day Menu Ideas

Pulled Pork

J A Roark
I have the perfect recipe for those who have to work and do not have to grill out on Memorial Day. Perhaps you would like to make this for an office party for those of us who have to work on that day. You will need the following items:

Crock Pot I only make this in the crock pot.

1 Pork Butt Roast. Determining how many you want to feed would determine how big a roast you want to purchase. I would simply judge the roast. A little bit goes a long way! However, do not buy a tiny one and expect to feed 50 people with it. I always buy a roast that fits in my crock pot that would feed about 30-50 people depending on how many men show up!

2 bottles of Sweet Baby Ray's Bar-B-Q sauce. Feel free to choose a barbecue sauce that you like. I like this sauce because it makes for a sweet flavorful sandwich. It is actually our families' favorite. I am guaranteed to have no leftovers when I use this sauce.

Worcestershire Sauce. You can use any that you would prefer. You may even have this in your kitchen cabinet. I would not recommend skipping this step. It helps to make your roast tender. You will only need about 2 tbsp.

Black Pepper. You can use any kind of black pepper that you would like. I prefer crushed black pepper because it gives a lot more flavor in my opinion.

Hamburger Buns. I love this on a Sarah Lee's White Wheat bun, but you can use any bun you would like. Just make sure you have enough for everyone!

Cole Slaw . You do not necessarily have to have this item. This is the most preferred item to put on a Pulled Pork sandwich. I just buy this at the grocery store in the Deli area. I personally do not use this, but everyone else in the family does. So, I would suggest getting it just to offer as a topping.

How to prepare the Pork

Place Pork Butt Roast into crock pot.

Cover with water

Add 2 TBS of Worcestershire Sauce to the water

Pepper to season.

Place the roast in the crock pot. You will need to cook it on high for approximately 4 to 6 hours. I know it is done when it falls apart. carefully remove roast from water. Drain water from crock pot. Remove all bones and fat from the roast before placing it back into the crock pot. Return roast to the crock pot and add Sweet Baby Ray'sBarbecue Sauce. I use anywhere from 1 ½ bottles to 2 bottles. Just make sure it is all covered and has some extra sauce to cook in. Cook on low for about 30 minutes, then turn to warm until you are ready to serve. If you are not going to sever soon, you may want to store in the refrigerator and reheat prior to serving.

This is really a simple and easy recipe idea for those who want to have a picnic, but do not have time to grill out.
